Faster than a Speeding Bullet!
Since 1938, children and adults have been able to thrill to the comic-book
adventures of the character Superman! Superman is now featured in a weekly
TV series, "Lois & Clark" (betcha didn't know that! ) and in four monthly
comics published by DC Comics. Here's a little bit about each title that the
Man of Steel is currently featured in....
ACTION COMICS
ACTION COMICS is one of the oldest super-hero comics still being published
today (second to DETECTIVE COMICS, which started in 1937). The series began
in 1938 and with its first issue, it introduced the character "Superman"
by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. This comic also made history in 1988 as it
became one of the first modern American weekly comic books. While this
experiment only lasted until 1989, this book went back to the monthly format
where it still remains. The current creative team for ACTION consists of
writer David Michelinie, artist Kieron Dwyer, and inker Denis Rodier.
THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN
This title was the original Pre-Crisis SUPERMAN series from 1939 until 1986
when the Superman history was rewritten and the new SUPERMAN series began.
It was the first solo series for a super-hero in comic book history.
ADVENTURES is now being produced monthly by writer Karl Kesel, penciller
Stuart Immonen, and inker Jose Marzan Jr.
SUPERMAN
This series began in January, 1987 after the character of Superman was
revamped by famed comics creator John Byrne. Since the title's inception,
Superman/Clark has been engaged (#50), he has revealed his true identity
to Lois Lane (#53), he has died (#75), he has been "brought back to life"
as a crazed cyborg (#78), and he has officially returned from the dead (#82).
This book is currently being put together by writer Dan Jurgens, artist
Ron Frenz, and embellisher Joe Rubinstein.
SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL
This series has one of the longest-running creative teams in recent years
of Superman history (the creative team being writer Louise Simonson, penciller
Jon Bogdanove, and inker Dennis Janke). This comic recently celebrated its
50th issue.
Other Titles
Besides of the mounds of DC Comics back issues you could look for to read up
more on the comics adventures of the Man of Steel, you can also find Superman
and related characters in the quarterly SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF TOMORROW comic
by Roger Stern, Tom Grummett, and Brett Breeding; the monthly SUPERBOY series
by Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett, and the monthly comic STEEL, about one of
Superman's heroic "substitutes" when he was presumed dead.
If you're a fan of the TV series and are new to the whole Superman comics
thing, you might want to check out DC Comics' "LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW
ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN" trade paperback. Besides a fabulous cover with
Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain on it, it also features Superman stories in the
modern continuity at different places in Lois and Clark's relationship.
Unfortunately, it is rumored that the comics' Lois and Clark will be breaking
up -- but don't fret, they will definitely be back together soon, as both
DC Comics and Warner Brothers are planning for the wedding of the century
to be simultaneous on both the TV show and in the comics.
Interviews in the Krypton Club Newsletter
The Krypton Club Newsletter has featured several interviews with the creators
of the Superman comics. You can access a few of them here on the World Wide
Web! Krypton Club Newsletter #11 featured an

oversee the entire DC Universe!) Mike Carlin.
Before we go we'd like to place a link to the
Superman Home Page by A.J. Gould. He's been kind enough
to place an ad for the Krypton Club on his page the last few months, the
least we could do is return the favor! And besides that, his pages are
pretty darn Super!
