The WB's 2003 Image Campaign!
Special thanks to: Matt

It's that time again... the WB has put together a 2003 "Image Campaign" video!

Like the videos of previous years, this one features cast members from many shows on their fall line-up. The video also incorporates several clips from the shows, including Smallville (we'd give you more details, but the internet connection is pretty darn slow today. This is all over a fantastic musical piece that sadly we cannot identify. (Anyone know what it is?)

Allison Mack and Eric Johnson at UK Convention - Pictures & Details!
Special thanks to: Tim

Allison Mack (Chloe) and Eric Johnson (Whitney) were two featured guests at the 2003 Crashdown convention in the United Kingdom last weekend.

Both of them were with their significant others (Allison with Peter, Eric with Adria), and Eric had a particularly funny t-shirt on proclaiming that "Marines Make Better Lovers." Want to see more? Click here!

Other details from the Con: Allison Mack mentioned that originally she was going on vaction when the Smallville audition came up and she was really moody because she was nagged into going to the audition. She said that she was so angry and had
an attitude problem, and when she took the audition that it showed. Of course, this
worked in her favor because David Nutter loved it. Eric Johnson auditioned for Clark but it did not fit so he was Whitney. Kristin was the first person to get the job, so they had to find someone who worked well with her and that's where Tom came in.
Also, someone asked if Chloe would get killed off, and Allison said she had no idea what's in store for her character.

David Nutter, director of the Smallville pilot, was also at the Con and showed some previews of Tarzan and Jane while he was there. It sounds as though a good time was had by all.

"Lucas Luthor" in Cult Times
The "Prodigal" brother of Lex Luthor introduced in the episode with that title is interviewed in the latest issue of Cult Times magazine.

Paul Wasilewski talked about the role of Lucas and whether or not he'd be back to push Lex's buttons.

"I think that the Luthor genes do not allow Lucas to be nice to anyone in any way whatsoever. I don't think he's capable of it. In real life, I think there is no such thing as a one-dimensional character - there are layers and reasons as to why a person is the way they are. But I think that when it comes to the Superman legend, the whole appeal is that it is good versus evil, and I love playing someone who is sheer out-and-out malicious. It's fun to play because we know Lex will inevitably turn to the dark side, but Lucas is already there and is pushing Lex every step of the way. So if Lucas comes back - and he has been invited - I would think that he would cause more ruckus and more trouble and love every minute of it," he said.

He also reveals that the most memorable part of doing Smallville was Michael Rosenbaum's singing. Yep, friends, Lex is nuts. Anyhow, the latest Cult Times is now available at newsstands in the United States!

Sheriff Ethan Speaks!
Part 2 Now Posted!
One of the most familiar faces in Smallville up until the episode "Suspect" was Mitchell Kosterman, who played "Sheriff Ethan" ("Sheriff Ethan Miller" for those who read the Ledger). Ethan first appeared in "Jitters" and appeared in around a dozen episodes after that, before Lionel Luthor got the better of him.

Mr. Kosterman was kind enough to answer some questions for KryptonSite about the role, fans on the 'net, Smallville's unsung heroes, and more. Part 1 of this interview was posted on Friday, and you can find it here. Part 2, which features Kosterman talking about his final episode and current projects, is now posted and can be found by following this link!

Updated: Kristin Kreuk Talks About The Finale!

Mr. Geter was kind enough to share this interview with KryptonSite.

Coming This Fall: Smallville: Beginnings
Smallville won't be an EasyView anymore starting this Fall, because regularly-scheduled Smallville repeats will be on every week at 7PM (ET)! Titled Smallville: Beginnings, the show will take a cue from Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven and show repeats of the early episodes of the series. Sounds good to us! We'll let you know when this is set to begin. It *probably* won't be until September.

Jeph Loeb Interviewed At Television Without Pity
Special thanks to: Omar G.

Fan-favorite Smallville writer Jeph Loeb, who also of course was responsible for the fantastic Superman For All Seasons comic book series, spoke with Omar G. of Television Without Pity about Teen Wolf, Commando, Buffy animated, Joss Whedon, The Matrix, comics, Chloe Sullivan, Superman movies, Smallville the TV show, HoYay, Pete Ross, and more.

Among the morsels of greatness in this fantastic interview was this fantastic quote about the often-delayed Superman movie project:

"I think that both can peacefully co-exist. I find it curious that, given the success of Smallville, they don't involve Al and Miles more directly -- but hey, that's Hollywood. I wouldn't mind having a say on it as well, given my background both in writing the character in comics and on the show. It's a titanic franchise waiting to bust out and it will. Believe me, it will."

We couldn't agree more. Anyhow, if you'd like to read Omar's interview with Mr. Loeb, click here.

Confirmed: Smallville Moving To Wednesdays In Fall 2003
After much speculation is that the WB will be moving Smallville to Wednesdays at 8PM beginning this Fall to anchor a new night for the WB, many sources, including the WB themselves, the Washington Post, and Variety all confirm that it is definitely happening.

At 9PM following Smallville on Wednesdays will be Angel, featuring a former Buffy cast member among its crew.

One Tree Hill will be taking over the Tuesday-at-9 slot. It's looking like Tarzan will swing over to Sunday, and the lack of a Young MacGyver may mean that Tall Dean will be returning to the Gilmore Girls.

Talk about the move on the K-Site message board!

Michael Rosenbaum At The Reds Game!
Special thanks to: Zod

Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) threw out the first pitch at the Cincinnati Reds game on May 7, 2003, and KryptonSite's own "Zod" was there to take some exclusive photos that you won't be finding on any other Smallville site!

And, again thanks to Zod, some details... Michael was introduced at the game to the blaring of "Save Me" (what else). His first pitch was spot-on, and then he did another, this time taking signals from Reds catcher Jason LaRue. Before that pitch Michael played catch with a few of the Reds players.

Always taking time for his fans, Michael waved, blew kisses, and signed autographs during the inning breaks. He was joined there by a group of his college buddies, and a good time was had by all.

Comics2Film has reported and KryptonSite is able to confirm that Smallville writer Philip Levens, whose past credits include the episodes "Ryan" and "Stray," will be moving on to another super-hero... or should we say super-heroine.

More Gough Interviews Online
Smallville executive producer Alfred Gough spoke with many websites on Monday, including this one. Similar ground was covered by all, but if you're curious to read what's out there:

At Comicon.com's Pulse, Gough speaks with Jen Contino. Among the things exclusive to that interview, Al had great things to say about John Glover as Lionel Luthor: "We really like all of the characters in Smallville and there are some that just weren't meant for bigger roles ... like Lionel Luthor," Gough said. "We thought he would only be a guest star in the pilot, but John Glover is such a wonderful actor. We wrote him into another few episodes in season one and then he did such a great job, that we worked our schedule about his. He not only added to the show, but his character added to our understanding of Lex and what makes him the type of man he is. We hope to do even more with Lionel Luthor in season three. His character was just a happy accident. He struck a chord in us, and we were lucky Glover could take the ball and run with it."

At Comics2Film, Gough talked with Rob Worley. There, among other things, Gough said this about the Chloe Chronicles: "We thought it would be fun to expand on that in a way, nowhere near as technically well, but the way that the 'Animatrix' movies enhanced what I'm sure will be in 'The Matrix' sequels. A fun way to take the mythology and explore it a little further."

Last but not least, the Superman Homepage talked to Gough about the show and its connections with the comics universe.

And of course, you can read a preview of what's to come with Gough's KryptonSite interview right here. Stay tuned for more!

Michael Rosenbaum In US Weekly
Michael Rosenbaum
(Lex) is profiled in the latest issue of US Weekly. In the article, Michael talks about many things, including having to shave his head for the show:

"I just don't like it when they ask me to shave my chest hair. I suppose I could sell the hairs on Ebay. One person would probably want them."

Oops. Well maybe he's happy they forgot about it in "Nicodemus."

On the subject of whether or not the bald head helps him get the ladies, Michael replied with the following: "There are those women who like bald men. Of course, they're also the women who follow bands like the Cure and White Zombie around."

The latest US Weekly should be on newsstands everywhere now.

Smallville Stars in ELLE Girl

Jessica tells us that the May-June 2003 issue of ELLE Girl, Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) talks about the first car he owned, Shawn Ashmore (Eric from "Leech") talks about X2, and in a "Best Tan" poll, Kristin Kreuk came in third place with 35% of the vote. The issue is probably now at newsstands.

John Schneider Interviewed At The Parents Television Council Website
John Schneider
(Jonathan Kent) recently spoke to the Parents Television Council about the role of parents on television, and inside was the revelation that Schneider almost passed on the Smallville role before reading the script. He thought Superman had been "done quite well," but "done quite enough."

Schneider's attitude changed when he read the script and saw what the Jonathan Kent role had to offer. “This is a show where the parents are depicted as not only having a clue, but being very instrumental in forming a personality of a young man, and on top of that, this young man, by virtue of the parenting he is receiving, is going to turn out to be Superman.”

And what about those detractors that think Jonathan "You have to be careful, son" Kent is a bit too mean? “I’ve had several instances where people say, ‘Man, you really need to lighten up, you’re mean.’ I was a teenager; you can tell the difference between someone who’s being spitefully mean to you, or being ‘mean’ to you because they love you. And I think in Jonathan Kent they’re seeing the difference.”
