Although plans for a series spin-off are still on (see the "Diana Prince" article below), TVWeekly's Matt Damian Ausiello-Abrams just revealed that a deal has been signed with Tom Welling to star in an unprecedented 11th season of Smallville.
What got Tom to sign? A-A's sources say that the re-signing is connected to a full season pickup for the new cheerleader series that Tom is producing, titled Hellcats. The project stars Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale.
The renewal comes after The CW's confidence in the show as a Friday-night anchor. An eleventh season will take the show through to 2012. This new development may mean, however, that our list of Season 10 titles is inaccurate.
Another Major Character Death & Other Big Plans For Episode #200
KryptonSite has learned some top-level Smallville intel that the show would probably rather we waited to reveal.
Basically, it comes down to this: If your favorite character appears to survive this season's finale, don't start celebrating just yet. Allegedly, a character WILL meet their maker in the finale, but that's not the big death that will come later...
Our sources have revealed that although season-long contracts have been offered to several of the show's players for next year, at least one contract will be only for the season's first four episodes. This will take them through to episode #200, when... a character will die, much like the series' 100th. This death is said to "greatly affect Clark" as he begins on his journey next year. By the end of Episode #200, Smallville will have undergone a cast overhaul that will lead to the departure of three key cast members.
We also have learned that the 200th episode will be written by series executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson and directed by Greg Beeman (who also did episode #100), and it will be presented as a 2-hour movie, much like Absolute Justice.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
KryptonSite EXCLUSIVE: Diana Prince To Be Season 10 Series Regular
Legend of the Seeker's loss is Smallville's gain.
Actress Bridget Regan, who plays the Confessor Kahlan in the popular series, has been tapped to play future Wonder Woman Diana Prince in the tenth season of Smallville. This introduction will actually become a permanent one, as the character will be appearing in 13 of the season's 22 episodes.
The hope is that the character will click and lead into a spin-off series of her own after the show ends its 10-year run next May.
That's not all. Look for Regan to appear as Diana Prince as early as Smallville's April 30 episode, "Sacrifice." She then will return in the Season 10 premiere, which is said to tell a bit about her origins.
The approval from Warner Bros. and DC Comics came after years of trying to get a Wonder Woman movie off the ground. Prior to getting the go-ahead, discussions for Season 10 included bringing in the character of Conner Kent to lighten Tom Welling's workload. Could the someday Wonder Woman be the wedge that will break Clark and Lois apart? Guess we'll see next year....
Bryan Q. Miller's Batgirl Comic Series Comes To An End
Bad news, comic fans: the Batgirl comic book series by Bryan Q. Miller will be coming to an end with issue #16 in July - a month that sees yet another restructure of DC's Bat-line in the wake of the return of Bruce Wayne. The good news? BQM will soon be taking on a new project incorporating the Stephanie Brown character.
Freaking Cool's Rick Johnson is reporting that Miller will be teaming with artist Andy Clarke of REBELS fame for a monthly series teaming Batgirl with Tim Drake. Interestingly enough, the title will be called Batgirl & Nightwing, which leads us to believe that Tim will be taking on a new role. As for Dick Grayson? Following in the footsteps of Barry Allen again being The Flash and Hal Jordan again being Green Lantern, rumor has it that Grayson will be returning to his original codename...
Red Robin, Batman Confidential, and Gotham City Sirens will also be ending, to be replaced by new monthly Robin, Legends of the Dark Knight, and Catwoman titles. Batwoman #1 is said to launch later this year, and the other titles will remain in publication.
Smallville Season 8: The Official Companion Book Now Shipping
KryptonSite webmaster Craig Byrne's latest Smallville project is now shipping after a two-year delay.
Smallville Season 8: The Official Companion takes a look at the 22 episodes of the series' eighth year and features interviews with the entireSmallville cast. The introduction for the book is written by Tess Mercer herself, Cassidy Freeman.
There's also a special section entitled "Doomsday: What Went Wrong?" as cast and crew reflect on the series' most unpopular season finale. The book also features some exclusive commentary from Michael Rosenbaum about the show's decision to hire a body double to take his place for multiple episodes.
Tom Welling To Guest Star In Rosenbaum's Syfy Sitcom
Michael Rosenbaum's new Syfy Channel sitcom will be bringing in one of his Super-friends in an episode scheduled to air in November.
We hear that in the fourth episode of Saved By Zeroes, Tom and Michael will play former rivals who were on the same series - a big difference from reality, where Michael and Tom were and have remained close friends.
No further plot details are known but we have heard talk that there is a shoutout that will make fans of the "Clex" pairing very happy.
