Superman & Lois Premieres Tonight!

February 23 brings us the series premiere of Superman & Lois on The CW.

The moment Super-fans have been waiting years for is finally here – the series premiere of Superman & Lois begins at 8PM ET/PT TONIGHT on The CW!

The basic premise of the series works: “What if your Dad was Superman and your Mom was the greatest reporter in the world?” It’s a very human story that shows that there are some problems that Kryptonian abilities cannot solve. Plus, it’s a return to Smallville for The CW, after a certain series did so well for them and their predecessor The WB back in the day.

The cast of Superman & Lois is top-notch and you can read all of our thoughts on the series premiere in our mostly non-spoilery Pilot Review. As we said, this is a bold new direction for DC TV on The CW… and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The CW has released a lot of videos and trailers to promote it, and you can find some preview images and an official description below.

But, finally, a plea or a request: The KryptonSite Forums, back in the days of Smallville, were a place where we could all gather and talk about the latest Super-series. Many say “forums are dead,” but if there’s any possibility we could rekindle that community again, we’d really appreciate it if you swung by. You can find our Superman & Lois forum here.

Enjoy the show… I know I certainly did!

After years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”).

The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when both a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) and impassioned self-made mogul Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner, “Tyrant”) enter their lives. (#101). Story by Greg Berlanti & Todd Helbing, teleplay by Todd Helbing and directed by Lee Toland Krieger.

Season four of SUPERMAN & LOIS picks up right where last season left off: with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Luthor’s monster locked in a ferocious, moon-wrecking battle, as Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) fights for his life against the seemingly unstoppable creature. Back on the ground, General Lane (guest star Dylan Walsh) struggles to stay alive after being kidnapped by Luthor’s henchmen, while Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch), Jordan (Alex Garfin), and Jonathan (Michael Bishop) race against time to rescue him. But standing in their way is Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) himself, who has permanently moved to Smallville as the next step in his malicious plan to destroy Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Lana Lang (guest star Emanuelle Chriqui) uses her position as Mayor to fight back against Luthor’s schemes, a move which puts her in the sights of the most dangerous man in the world and threatens everything she holds dear. This includes her relationship with John Henry Irons (guest star Wolé Parks), who must put his Ironworks plans on hold and rejoin the DOD, now that General Lane is missing. But they aren’t the only duo in trouble, as Chrissy Beppo (guest star Sofia Hasmik) and Kyle Cushing (guest star Eric Valdez) face an uphill battle of their own, with countless roadblocks that threaten to ruin their future together. Amid all the chaos, Sarah Cortez (guest star Inde Navarette) and Natalie Irons (guest star Tayler Buck) also join the fight against Luthor, while both facing impossible decisions about their paths in life. And as Clark’s battle with the terrifying monster continues, Lois, her boys, and the world must face an unthinkable possibility: what if Superman never returns?

SUPERMAN & LOIS stars Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, and Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor.

Tom Cavanagh’s Superman & Lois Character Revealed

The character that Tom Cavanagh played on Superman & Lois has finally been revealed.

Published

on

In the past 10+ years of the “Arrowverse” Tom Cavanagh has acted as a number of characters. He’s been a Thawne, a Wells, another Wells, even another Wells, Pariah, and many more characters… but on the November 18 episode of Superman & Lois, we were able to see him as a completely different character.

Please do not read until or unless you’ve finished the Superman & Lois episode “Sharp Dressed Man” as some SPOILERS are within!

Viewers of the show discovered that Cavanagh was not playing, say, Milton Fine as they might have expected, but he was instead playing unscrupulous talk show host G. Gordon Godfrey. The character has quite a history in DC Comics, particularly in relation to New Gods lore, and Godfrey has been seen in other media as well, including Smallville, Young Justice, and more. That New Gods connection confirms that yes, this is a character originally created by the influential Jack Kirby who had created or co-created several of comics’ most iconic figures. Captain America, Thor, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Darekseid, Mister Miracle, Maxwell Lord… this was a very prolific man.

In many versions of the story Godfrey has been a talk show host of some sort, and on Superman & Lois it was no exception. The on-air graphics resembled the FOX show Gutfeld! in many ways, right down to the exclamation point. Interestingly, though, this look for Cavanagh was slightly different than anything we’ve seen for any Wells incarnation.

When we interviewed Michael Cudlitz (Lex Luthor actor and director of “Sharp Dressed Man” – read the whole interview at KSiteTV, our general TV news site), we asked if it was purposeful that he took on a different look, perhaps to separate him from those other parts.

“No, I left that up to the showrunners,” Cudlitz said about picking a look. “To me, he was this sort of weird mix between Tucker Carlson and a Jerry Springer sort of host. He was just a complete opportunist. I was more aware of the kind of person that he was going to be, more than what Tom was going to specifically look like compared to the other [shows],” Cudlitz told us.

He had nothing but praise for Cavanagh’s performance as Godfrey on this episode: “He was so wonderful to have on set. He came in with a bunch of ideas, and he’s a director’s dream. That’s what you want to have… every actor to come on set, ready to play. Have something planned, but be ready to throw it all out,” he said.

New episodes of Superman & Lois air Mondays on The CW.
