Paul
Wesley In Smallville Magazine #14
Issue #14 of the Official Smallville Magazine is now
hitting newsstands and comic book stores. It offers the latest
in Smallville news, interviews with Erica Durance (Lois
Lane), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), and Paul Wesley (Lucas
Dunleavy-Luthor), and writer/producers Kelly Souders and Brian
Peterson, a look at Brainiac in the comics to screen, an exclusive
story, and much, much more.
Here
are some highlights from Bryan Cairns' interview with Paul Wesley,
who played Lex Luthor's brother Lucas in the episode "Prodigal":
On
Lucas and his motivation: "Even though Lucas did things that were probably not
the nicest things in the world, he had his own justification
in his mind. It is up to the audience to decide whether or not
they want to sympathize and have compassion for Lucas or if
they think he's completely arrogant. I can't be biased toward
my own character. As Paul the actor, Lucas is a good guy but
I'd say that about any character I played that did something
bad. There's always denial."
About
missing out on plans to bring Lucas back to the show: "During filming, my manager called and said, 'The called
over and want to do this and have a potential storyline,"
explains Paul. "I was really excited because I had fun.
What happened was I signed on to do a pilot three weeks after
I got home from shooting Smallville. Contractually, I was obligated
to that show so I wasn't able to be a guest star because they
are sooting in the middle of pilot season. I got messed up in
that regard and the show I did didn't get picked up, so I wish
I had stayed with Smallville.
"It
could have been better for me. The thing that is cool is Smallville
will probably be on for a few more years and there's the possibility
that Lucas can come back. It was very 'I'll be back' and that
is it. I think the viewers responded well to Lucas and would
like to see him resolve things."

this and more are in The Official Smallville Magazine
