UPDATED 9/21/19: The thing that we never expected to see again is actually happening: Smallville lives! Tom Welling will be reprising his role as Clark Kent in this year's DC TV crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Erica Durance is on board as well, again playing Lois!
Not a whole lot about this crossover is known at this time, though it has been noted that Tom is playing "Clark Kent" and that Erica will be in multiple episodes of the crossover. The "Clark Kent" note makes us wonder if we will still miss the possibility of seeing Tom wearing a Superman costume in this crossover event, which will see the Arrowverse characters on a battle that crosses many worlds. It is said that the appearances of Clark and Lois will pick up several years after we last saw them, with the Erica press release noting that it's been "about 10 years."
- Michael Rosenbaum has not yet been announced or confirmed for Crisis, though all indicators point to them hoping for a Lex Luthor appearance as well. Would he still be President in 2020?
- Tom and Erica are not the only Superman and Lois in the crossover. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Tyler Hoechlin (Supergirl will also be seen as the Man of Steel, and Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois will also be returning. Jon Cryer is playing Supergirl's Lex Luthor.
More Spoilers For Smallville's Future
UPDATED 9/21/19: Could there be more Smallville beyond Crisis on Infinite Earths? Never say never, though generally when these things happen, the actors move on to new franchises and characters. Considering the surprise factor of seeing Tom, Erica, and perhaps others returning in this year's crossover, anything can happen. After all, we should always hold on to Smallville.
