As part of a Vancouver press tour, a group of journalists including KryptonSite's Craig Byrne were able to talk with the fantastic Cassidy Freeman about her role as Tess Mercer on the show. You can read the bulk of that interview here.
BUT... there were a few comments from Ms. Freeman that were a bit too spoilery for those who did not see "Lazarus." Now that the season premiere has aired, let's get Cassidy talking about "Little Lex" and the relationship that boy has with Tess...
Questions are in bold; answers are not.
What can you say about the interaction between Tess and the little Lex seen in the season premiere?
She takes a liking to him. I think she has a mothering quality to her that she's never really been able to share, so it's an opportunity to do that. To have someone on her side, maybe.
Does she feel guilt at all?
I think she feels more hope, that maybe at a young age, it won't turn into something horrible. She can have some control over this very innocent child.
That does seem a little conflicted given her relationship with Lex in the past.
Absolutely conflicted, and I think that the dichotomy between the older Lex, who is super freaky (played wonderfully by Mackenzie), and this little kid, is difficult for her to come to terms with. But it's kind of like - how do you throw a puppy out, even if you know it's going to turn into a mean dog? How do you turn the puppy away, because it's just so innocent, that you hope you can maybe have an impact on it.
What do the other characters think of Tess hanging around this little Lex clone?
I'm not sure that that's something that she would want to share, so I have a feeling, without going too into detail, that it's going to be a little bit of her own deal.
