Old Headlines - March 1-15, 2002

Obviously an undertaking such as KryptonSite takes up a lot of bandwidth, and that costs money. Beyond that, though, your webmaster Craig is still barely employed. How can you help? Ordering through any of the Amazon.com links always helps, but you can also donate to the site via PayPal! The links to do so are just below. Thanks!! Any help is appreciated. Smallville DVD

You won't see this in stores in the United States but you CAN order it through Videoflicks.com. The DVD includes deleted scenes, a map of Smallville, and, oh yeah, what sounds like the Smallville pilot and "Metamorphosis." The DVD also includes commentary from executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and pilot director David Nutter. What are you waiting for? Order a copy!

Superman For All Seasons
Smallville explores the story of a young Clark Kent and his place in the world on television. In the comics, this was very well illustrated in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Superman For All Seasons." This has been labeled a "must read" by many fans and also listed as the favorite Superman story of recent years by many. Check it out!

Superman Transformed!
In 1997 the creators of the Superman comics altered Clark's powers. Since it's a given that Smallville's Clark may be dealing with at least one electrical wraith, here's where you can find out what happened when things turned shocking for Superman. It's also good if you were away from the comics for a while and were wondering what that blue Superman thing was all about.

SFX, FHM and Soap Opera Weekly Feature Smallville
(3/9) Really quick updates: The Spring 2002 issue of SFX magazine features reviews of "Rogue" and "Shimmer," and March 12 issue of Soap Opera Weekly has article about upcoming episode of Smallville where "Lana Tells Clark How She Feels On Smallville." Sounds interesting to us! We're also hearing that Kelly Brook (aka "Victoria" aka "BMC") is in the latest issue of FHM magazine.

SFX and FHM can usually be found at major bookstore chains; Soap Opera Weekly can be found in grocery store checkout lines everywhere.

We're told that in SFX there is an application to vote for the best films, books, and TV shows for THE SFX AWARDS 2002. You can either pick up an application in the magazine or e-mail votes to sfx@futurenet.co.uk. You must include your full name and postal address in order to prevent multiple entries. Those of you not voting for Smallville will be stripped to your boxers and hung in a field. Just kidding.

"Showtime" Now In Theaters!
(3/15) Friday, March 15 marked the release of the new Robert De Niro/Eddie Murphy film "Showtime." The screenplay for the movie was written by Smallville executive producers/showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The Internet Movie Database describes "Showtime" as "a spoof of buddy cop movies where two very different cops are forced to team up on a new reality based T.V. cop show."

You can see the "Showtime" trailer by visiting the movie's official site.

"Nicodemus" Gets Great Ratings
(3/20) UPN's going to wish they kept Roswell on. Ratings for their Tuesday-night sitcoms are still abysmal.

As for Smallville, the show fared pretty well this week. Perhaps the higher ratings come from the WB showing two *new* episodes of Smallville in a row (what a concept!) Most of the competition being repeats surely helped too, as did the content of Tuesday night's program.

Are Whitney's "Bad Hair Days" Over?
(3/3) Another photo the WB has released of "Nicodemus" reveals a new look for Lana Lang's favorite jock.

Come on, you laughed when Whitney's hair flopped around in "Kinetic." Apparently someone else did too, because now there's yet another look for the character (his third in 14 episodes!), which you can find on the image to your left. You may have seen the new hair very briefly when Whitney made a cameo appearance in "Zero."

Whitney is played every week by Eric Johnson, who is probably happy with anything that is done as long as they don't shave him like they did for the movie "Scorn." (And Michael Rosenbaum thought he had it bad!)

"Zero" Review!
(3/17) Christopher Valin's review of this week's Smallville is now up! What did he have to say about this Kryptonite-free episode? Click here and find out!

"Zero" Music!
(3/13) Here's a list of the music heard in this week's new Smallville...

"Lonely Road of Faith" by Kid Rock
"God Is A DJ" by Faithless
"Battleflag" by Pigeonhed/Lo Fidelity All-Stars
"Let's Go For A Ride" by Eleventeen

Follow the links and order these CD's through Amazon.com to help support KryptonSite! And if you know what parts of the episode these songs appeared in, send in some mail!

Parker Lewis Can't Win
(3/13) Now that "Zero" has aired, we now know who replaced "Doogie" in playing "Zero"'s Jude Royce.

The actor who played him was Corin Nemec. You might remember him from a early-90's TV series called Parker Lewis Can't Lose. He also appeared in the TV-movie "I Know My First Name Is Steven" which also included a VERY young Allison Mack (Chloe).

Rolling Stone Hits The Newsstands!
(3/6) Imagine our surprise when we found out that the latest issue of Rolling Stone arrived a few days earlier than expected!

The magazine features Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk (Clark and Lana) on the cover, and the insides feature interviews with Welling, Kreuk, and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex). There are pictures of Michael and Kristin as children (yes, Baby Lex was bald), and you'll learn a few things about the stars that, well, only Rolling Stone would ask. The interviews are definitely not for children.

Because we don't want to use up too much bandwidth, we aren't including the image on the main page of KryptonSite. Please Click here to see the cover of this month's Rolling Stone

UK Remy Zero News - Updated
(3/11) Dr. Huffy tells us that Remy Zero's single of "Save Me" (the Smallville theme), which we originally posted as coming out much earlier, will instead be released on April 15. For those of you not willing to wait that long, Remy Zero's "Golden Hum" CD will be released in the UK on the March 18.

To order the single in the UK, click here. To order the "Golden Hum" in the UK, click here. Finally, if you're in the United States and haven't gotten the CD yet what are you waiting for? Order it already!

Behind-The-Scenes Smallville Special In The UK!
(3/10) Proving that the United Kingdom pays better attention to their sci-fi TV shows, on Sunday, March 17, Channel 4 will be presenting a 35-minute behind-the-scenes special about Smallville (subtitled "Superman: The Early Years" across the pond).

We're told the special includes Tom Welling giving host Andi Peters a tour of the set. A promo for it includes Michael Rosenbaum and Welling playing pool.

The show will air at 2:30PM on March 17th. *Hopefully* the WB will at some point become wise to this and decide "Hey, we should air this too!" in the U.S. and Canada.

Thanks to BatmanUK, Dr. Huffy, Matt, and Fizz for sending in the news!

Kristin Kreuk is "Snow White: The Fairest Of Them All"
(3/10) On Sunday, March 17, ABC's Wonderful World of Disney will be presenting Kristin Kreuk (Lana) is Snow White in an all-new TV movie titled "The Fairest Of Them All."

The movie also stars Miranda Richardson. You can see a picture of Kristin in "Snow White" to your left.

Be warned, we're hearing that reviewers haven't been too kind to this film. But if you want to see it for yourself, it's on Sunday.

"She Didn't Find Us, We Found Her"
(3/9) So, whatever happened to Cynthia Ettinger, the "too young, too blond, too pretty" first Martha Kent in the first Smallville pilot, who was replaced by Annette O'Toole before it actually aired?

Ettinger is now doing theater at the Actor's Gang Studio in Hollywood, CA, where she just wrapped a performance in "The Seagull." The LA Times' Calendar Weekend for Thursday, March 8 featured a picture of Ettinger in the role. It seems the Actor's Gang does many different shows so it won't be long before Cynthia does another show, if you would like to see her. Just hope she doesn't find any babies falling out of the sky.

Tom Welling One Of TV Guide's "Faces to Watch"
(3/5) The March 9-15 issue of TV Guide has included Tom Welling as one of the "Faces to Watch" in their "TV MVP's" issue.

"Sans cape or tights-but with ample abs of steel-he's succeeded at breathing new life (and teen angst) into Clark Kent," they said.

"Clark has a lot on his shoulders with the whole superhero thing, and as the star, Tom kind of has the weight of the whole show on his shoulders," says executive producer Joe Davola. "As Clark has become more confident in his role, so has Tom."

You can get TV Guide just about everywhere in the United States.

Kristin Kreuk Interviewed In The "Globe & Mail"
(3/7) The "Globe & Mail" recently conducted an interview with Smallville's lovely Lana Lang, Kristin Kreuk. To see what she had to say, click here.

The DVD will also likely include commentary with executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and director David Nutter, as previously reported here at KryptonSite.

Sadly, nothing has been announced about a DVD release of Smallville here in the United States, so it could be a while before we see these deleted scenes. (So THAT's where all the Pete footage is going!) We don't know yet if any of the footage on the DVD includes scenes shot by Cynthia Ettinger, who played Martha in the first version of the pilot. It might be time for them to make those regional-converter-thingies a bit cheaper, so we can see these extras now!

Again, before anyone asks: This information is regarding a European DVD release of the show, and nothing has been announced for North America.

BatmanUK also has a discussion list for Smallville fans in the United Kingdom. You can access it by going here. (And he sends people over to KryptonSite, so you know he's a good guy!)

For KryptonSite's DVD wish list (obviously written before we knew of any lost scenes), click here.

Michael Rosenbaum Interviewed; Mentions KryptonSite
(3/3) "Jazz" from the "Blue & Gold" in Sacramento interviewed Michael Rosenbaum on March 1st, and she posted the transcript online, which you can find by checking out the whole thing at MichaelRosenbaum.com's message board.

Most interesting of course was when Jazz asked him about Smallville's internet following. Here's some of the dialogue:

Jazz: "Well theres actually a huge internet community now based on the show..I dont know if you check that out."

MR: "Like Kryptonsite.com?" [go Michael for mentioning the site!]

Jazz: "Yeah, stuff like that."

MR: "Yeah, I've checked those out. They're hilarious. You know, those are our biggest fans and they know the show more than we do. They know whats going to happen before we do."

Jazz: "Really?"

MR: "I didnt even know when I had a love interest on the show, her name was Kelly Brook, I didn't even know about it! I went on the internet and I saw it and was like holy $#%^. And I called the writers and I was like 'is this true?' And they go 'yeah.' I go 'why do they know before I do?'"

Jazz: "So do you check out those sites often?"

MR: "Um, Id say ..I work so much I dont have a lot of time to do that. But I'd say at least once a month I go on there once every couple weeks for fun for like 20 minutes I look through some of the stuff the people are saying. It's important because its nice to see that we have a lot of fans out there and people who really support us."

During the very candid interview, Michael talked about his following, his fans, hockey and more. Thanks to Jazz for passing this along, and hopefully we can let you know when this interview sees print!
