Tom Welling
and Smallville In Entertainment Weekly "Best
of 2001" Issue
(12/15) Smallville
landed not once, not twice, but three times in Entertainment
Weekly's "Best of 2001" issue, which is available
on newsstands this week.
Tom
Welling (Clark) was named "Best Boy Wonder" of 2001.
Tom talks about where he was when he got the role, as well as
other things, such as what he thinks of being a sex symbol: "Really?
That's something that's obviously out of my control."
EW's
Bruce Fretts includes Smallville in his "second opinion"
of the top 10 television series of 2001, alongside such good company
as The Sopranos and Gilmore Girls. He calls the
show a "subversively witty spin on comic-book myths."
The
EW letters page also features reader reactions to the recent
issue which featured (yep, him again) Tom Welling on the
cover.

magazine. Thanks to everyone who wrote in with updates.
"Sorority
Boys" Trailer Premieres
(12/14) Those of you who visit
the movies this weekend might want to look closely if they happen
to be showing a preview trailer for the upcoming film "Sorority
Boys."
One
of the three guys in dresses in the film is none other than Michael
(Lex Luthor) Rosenbaum -- with hair! It looks like Michael
plays a big (and funny) role in the movie. Rosenbaum told Premiere
magazine his new look is somewhat like "Ethel Merman meets
Uma Thurman meets Tori Spelling, with a little J.Lo going on in
the booty.
Ratings:

Here's
the rundown for the night of Dec. 11. Smaller numbers indicate what

Michael
Rosenbaum Featured In USA Today
(12/11) The Dec. 11 edition
of the USA Today newspaper features an article on Smallville's
Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum.
"He's
kind of nice to everybody, unless you cross him," Michael says
about Lex. "He does everything in his power to prove that he
means well and that things don't fail. He's trying to make good
for himself."
Someone
who crosses Lex will be in for a surprise in tonight's episode,
as Lex defies his father (played by John Glover) yet again.
Executive
Producer Al Gough tells USA Today that Lex "has
the most to lose: his soul." He also hints that event in May
will launch Lex's move to the dark side.

Smallville
DVD On The Way... To Europe
(12/7) A DVD release of Smallville
is inevitable, but fans in North America might have to wait a bit
more than their counterparts overseas.
The
European DVD release (which could come as soon as Spring 2002) will
include the first two episodes of Smallville edited into
a two-hour movie, plus commentary by executive producers Al Gough
and Miles Millar, and director David Nutter.
We'll
let you know if and when we hear more, and when folks in North America
will be so lucky.
The
Name Game
(12/7) Those who have been following
the spoilers or articles about Kelly Brook's upcoming Smallville
character may have read about a "Victoria Emerson" who
will soon be re-entering Lex Luthor's life. We have learned the
character's name has since been changed.
When
we meet Victoria in the episode "Rogue," her name will
be Victoria Hardwick. Apologies go out for any misinformation.
Lex
Luthor Inspired By Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone
(12/5) The L.A. Times
recently featured an interesting piece addressing a comment Lex
Luthor made to Clark in the "Hourglass" episode
of Smallville.
"I
once read about a rich man who survived a hotel fire. He hung onto
the ledge for an hour before the fire department rescued him. Afterward,
he bought the hotel, always stayed in that room. When they asked
him why, he said he figured fate couldn't find him twice,"
Lex explained in the episode. What many fans didn't realize is that
Lex was referring to a true story -- those events actually happened
to Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone, who had that very experience
in the Copley Plaza Hotel in 1979. The only fiction in the story
was that Redstone didn't actually buy the hotel.
"It's
a fascinating story," Smallville executive producer
Al Gough told the L.A. Times. "I figure it was something
Lex would remember."
"Lex
is always interested in very successful people--men who made their
own destinies," Gough added.
What
will Lex Luthor do with the car that he almost died in? Keep watching
Smallville to find out!
The
Misadventures of Fiona Plum
(12/5) Before Kelly Brook
signed to play Lex Luthor's girlfriend in four upcoming episodes
of Smallville, she was planned to star in a WB sitcom called
The Misadventures of Fiona Plum, a project which has since been
shelved.
The
Cincinatti Enquirer recently spoke with the creator of Fiona
Plum, Jill Murray, who brings up that Kelly will soon be on
Smallville and that her role "smells strangely like
a recurring character as Lex Luthor's girlfriend."
You

Special thanks to EmotionalHermit for passing that along!

Smallville
In TV Guide: Recap!
(12/3) The December 8 issue
of TV Guide went on sale on Dec. 3 and will be available
at newsstands all this week. It features four Smallville-related
covers by incredible comic painter Alex Ross and a Smallville
comic book-style story drawn by Terry (Harley Quinn)
Dodson. To your left you can see what the four interlocking
covers look like.
Inside
you can find interviews with many members of the show's cast and
crew (including Tom Welling, John Schneider, Kristin Kreuk, Michael
Rosenbaum, and Annette O'Toole; and producers Alfred
Gough, Miles Millar, and Brian Robbins). The show also looks
to DC Comics president Paul Levitz for his impression of
the show. ("The strongest feeling I have about the show is
kind of a creative jealousy," Levitz said. "They've done
such a cool job of playing with the mythology to make it better.")
The article talks about all sorts of topics, including Michael's
shaved head, Tom's background with the Superman character, and more.
There
is also a piece written by writer/director Kevin Smith, who
once wrote a Superman movie script of his own in the 1990's. You
can read Kevin's article online by clicking here.
(Thanks to Karen for passing that along!)
Finally,
the issue features a special four-page comics story, titled "Elemental,"
written by show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and drawn
by the Harley Quinn art team of Terry and Rachel Dodson.
A
few spoilers managed to slip out as well, including one hinted at
below. What were they? Visit the Spoilers
