As the recent Superman & Lois teaser leaned in to the show taking place in Smallville… now comes news that another hold on to Smallville will come in to play with the upcoming CW series.
Via Paul Hillsdon on Twitter, who found the permit applications, a Warner Bros. television production has put in a proposal for “construction of a production set on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds site to be used for movie/tv show filming purposes for a period of three years.” Why should Cloverdale sound familiar? That was the town used for exteriors on the classic Smallville from 2001 to 2011 on The WB and The CW.
It may be safe to assume, then, that the Smallville of Superman & Lois will match the one that Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance, Michael Rosenbaum & co. haunted decades ago, but with extra streets and locations that would be built to accommodate the new show. It’s interesting to note that this is going all in with a three-year deal — showing the studio has a lot of confidence in this new Super series.
Superman & Lois is scheduled to begin filming next month for a hopeful January 2021 series premiere.
