Word originally came a few nights ago courtesy of Bleeding Cool that actor Mark Gibbon has been cast as Zod on Supergirl, and today, ComicBook.com‘s Russ Burlingame has confirmation that it is indeed the case. What’s especially interesting about Gibbon’s casting, though, is his resume.
Gibbon not only played a “roughneck” on in the movie Man of Steel; he also played multiple characters (including twice playing a deputy) on Smallville spread throughout the show’s multiple seasons. If that’s not enough, Gibbon has also appeared on Arrow and has voiced characters including Nick Fury and The Hulk in animation.
Zod was most recently portrayed by Michael Shannon in Man of Steel; in Season 9 of Smallville, the character was played by Callum Blue. We aren’t sure if this is a brief appearance, a flashback, or something previewing a possible storyline for Season 3. In any event, this is very interesting, especially considering the actor’s resume.
Since Gibbon is said to have been filming this week, we are assuming he is appearing in the season finale.
The Supergirl season finale airs Monday, May 22 on The CW. The series returns with new episodes on Monday, April 24.

I really hope this is a one-off. I for one am very weary of this character. Yawn.
Yeah, I do wonder if it's just a character we'll see in passing somehow. I kind of hope so. I'm pretty much over Zod, myself.
