A teenage version of Kal-El is something that’s been rooted in TV history, with Smallville being one of the longest-running and most successful series in Warner Bros. Television history. Now, a teenage Kal-El is being cast for Supergirl, according to a report at TV Line.
The website says the potentially recurring role of Kal-El will first appear in Episode 13 of Supergirl, and that the show is seeking a 13 year old with “future leading man looks” to play the future Man of Steel in flashbacks.
The TV Line article also says “Lil’ Supes will first appear in this season’s 13th episode via a string of flashbacks that will establish the cherished bond between him and Kara,” which is interesting, considering that he was a baby when he left Krypton and appeared to be an adult in the series pilot when she was taken to the Danvers for safe keeping.
Or, here’s some speculation on our part: What if the teenaged Clark Kent/Kal-El knew the Danvers, years before he left Kara on their doorstep? (Armchair casting here: Could Laura Vandervoort play a young Eliza Danvers? Please? It’s probably not what they’re doing anyway, but hey, we tried… I mean, we already know Eliza looks like Supergirl…)
Either way, we should know more soon, we’d imagine, and before you suggest it, Tom Welling is about 25 years too old to play 13-year-old Kal-El. You can read the TV Line article here.
