Supergirl: First Look At Jon Cryer As Lex Luthor

Lenny Luthor grew himself a goatee!

The CW has released a first look photo of Jon Cryer as “the greatest criminal mind of our time,” Lex Luthor.

Cryer’s first appearance on Supergirl will be an episode called “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” which will air Sunday, March 17 on The CW. In describing the episode, The CW notes that “Lex Luthor reaches out from prison to enlist Lena (Katie McGrath) into one of his plans and will stop at nothing to get her on board, even if that means leveraging the life of one of her friends.”

This isn’t Jon Cryer’s first Super-rodeo. The Two and a Half Men star previously was associated with the world of Superman as Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman)’s nephew in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Cryer is the fifth actor to play an adult Lex Luthor on television. Previous TV Lexes have included Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), John Shea (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), and both Scott Wells and Sherman Howard (Superboy); Smallville also employed multiple actors to play younger versions of Lex. In the films, Lex has been played by Gene Hackman, Lyle Talbot, Jesse Eisenberg, and Kevin Spacey.

Craig Byrne has been writing about Superman TV since 1995, when the "Lois & Clark Krypton Club" launched. He founded KryptonSite.com in February 2001, becoming the first fan site for The WB/CW television series Smallville.
