New Comic-Con trailer for Supergirl Season 5 and announcements of new characters to be played by Julie Gonzalo and Staz Nair

Today at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, producers announced new cast members for Supergirl and an official new look at Kara’s new Super-suit for Season 5. All of these elements are also in a thrilling new Season 5 trailer complete with several new clips, which you can find below.

A press release and gallery of released images can be found beneath the trailer. And yes, Andrea Rojas is a character we saw in the Smallville episode “Vengeance” years ago – this time played by a different actor with a new direction, of course!

Two New Series Stars Join the Cast for Season Five: Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) as DC Character Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata), and Staz Nair (Game of Thrones) as Renowned Reporter William Dey

SAN DIEGO and BURBANK, Calif. — Once again, Supergirl landed at Comic-Con with another superpowered panel filled with surprises and reveals about the eagerly awaited upcoming season. Perhaps most striking for fans is that the character of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl (played by Melissa Benoist) will be sporting a new Kryptonian supersuit — the first revamp since her co-worker, friend, and confidante Winn Schott designed her iconic red and blue gear in season one. And two new characters will also be on the scene in National City this season.

NEW SUPERSUIT

The new suit, conceptualized by Supergirl costume designer Victoria Auth and created by Ironhead Studios and Bill Hargates Costumes, follows the evolution of supersuits in executive producer Greg Berlanti’s “Arrowverse,” which has seen redesigns of both the Arrow and Flash suits in recent years.

Regarding Kara’s new look, executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner said: “We’re beyond excited to update Supergirl’s iconic suit. We think her new image is strong and powerful. We hope the fans are as excited about it as we are.”

NEW CHARACTERS AND SERIES REGULARS

In addition to the first official unveiling of the new Supergirl supersuit, the show’s producers announced that two new characters will be joining the action in National City for the upcoming season: DC’s Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata) and renowned reporter William Dey.

Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars, Dallas, Eli Stone) will star as iconic DC character Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata). A polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire, Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata) is now making a hostile advance into the world of media. Unapologetic and unafraid to make waves, she also holds a mystical secret. Gonzalo will first appear as Rojas in the season premiere on Sunday, October 6, at 9/8c on The CW.

UK-based actor Staz Nair — who is perhaps best known for playing Qhono, a Dothraki warrior loyal to Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones — will play hardened reporter William Dey, an original character created for the series. On the surface, he’s a cynic and a sellout who looks down on Kara’s earnest idealism. Dey’s not interested in making friends, he just wants to get the story — but his ties to the criminal underworld could prove problematic. Nair (Game of Thrones, FOX’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, AMC’s Humans) as William Dey will also make his debut during the season premiere episode.

Supergirl returns for its fifth season on Sunday, October 6, at 9/8c on The CW. Produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and based on DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Jesse Rath as Brainiac, Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen, Andrea Brooks as Eve Tessmacher, with David Harewood as J’onn J’onzz. Greg Berlanti, Jessica Queller, Robert Rovner and Sarah Schechter are executive producers.

The CW has released photos to promote the November 25 episode of Superman & Lois called “To Live and Die Again!” It’s the penultimate episode, and it’s written and directed by Jai Jamison! Here are the photos; most of them feature Tyler Hoechlin and Michael Cudlitz as Superman and Lex Luthor.

UPDATE: KryptonSite has the official description for the episode courtesy of the studio: PENULTIMATE – Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) struggles against the fallout of the debate. Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) uses Luthor’s (Michael Cudlitz) tactics against him, while Jonathan (Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin) prepare for an impending battle. Season four of SUPERMAN & LOIS picks up right where last season left off: with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Luthor’s monster locked in a ferocious, moon-wrecking battle, as Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) fights for his life against the seemingly unstoppable creature. Back on the ground, General Lane (guest star Dylan Walsh) struggles to stay alive after being kidnapped by Luthor’s henchmen, while Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch), Jordan (Alex Garfin), and Jonathan (Michael Bishop) race against time to rescue him. But standing in their way is Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) himself, who has permanently moved to Smallville as the next step in his malicious plan to destroy Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Lana Lang (guest star Emanuelle Chriqui) uses her position as Mayor to fight back against Luthor’s schemes, a move which puts her in the sights of the most dangerous man in the world and threatens everything she holds dear. This includes her relationship with John Henry Irons (guest star Wolé Parks), who must put his Ironworks plans on hold and rejoin the DOD, now that General Lane is missing. But they aren’t the only duo in trouble, as Chrissy Beppo (guest star Sofia Hasmik) and Kyle Cushing (guest star Eric Valdez) face an uphill battle of their own, with countless roadblocks that threaten to ruin their future together. Amid all the chaos, Sarah Cortez (guest star Inde Navarette) and Natalie Irons (guest star Tayler Buck) also join the fight against Luthor, while both facing impossible decisions about their paths in life. And as Clark’s battle with the terrifying monster continues, Lois, her boys, and the world must face an unthinkable possibility: what if Superman never returns?

The Superman & Lois TV series episode “Sharp Dressed Man” is only a few days away and we’ve got some photos! Many of them feature the episode’s director Michael Cudlitz who also plays Lex Luthor; Yvonne Chapman (one of our Kung Fu faves) as Amanda Knox is in a lot of the pictures too. But… no power suit? Come on, don’t hide this greatness from us, CW! Look for “Sharp Dressed Man” to air November 18 on The CW.

UPDATE 11/14/24: We now have a description for the episode: THE EPISODE WAS DIRECTED BY MICHAEL CUDLITZ (“THE WALKING DEAD,” “SOUTHLAND”) – Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) challenges Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) to a live telecast debate, though not everything is as it seems. John Henry (Wole Parks) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) face a troubling possibility. THE EPISODE WAS DIRECTED BY GREGORY SMITH (“EVERWOOD,” “ROOKIE BLUE”) – After some concerning interactions in town, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) is determined to protect the secret that he’s Superman – a task complicated by Jonathan (Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) considers the future of the Gazette after Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) proposes something drastic.
