No official announcement has been made yet by Warner Home Video, but we have learned some really, REALLY big news that Smallville fans have been waiting for since 2011, and have a pre-order link that may confirm it:
The complete series set for Smallville will be coming to Blu-ray next Summer – but that’s not all – selected episodes, including the Pilot, “Crusade,” “Justice,” and the two-hour series finale – will be presented in 3D.
As the original Smallville DVD collection was such a big seller, we are hearing that nothing will be held back, with a number of bonus features including the following:
– All-new commentary on the series premiere from five cast members who were in the Pilot.
– Episode introductions from key members of the cast and crew on EVERY episode.
– Alternate version of the series pilot with Cynthia Ettinger as Martha Kent.
– Unused footage of the late Christopher Reeve from an as-yet-unknown episode.
– The original version of the episode “Veritas,” which was originally prepared as a season finale, with effects finished and original sequences added in. This version ends with Lex killing Lionel.
– The never-before-seen “Justice League” and “Supergirl” spin-off pilot presentations.
– Original ending to “Doomsday” with Sam Witwer as a goateed Zod.
– “Before They Were Super” featurette – Interviews with Smallville guest actors who showed up in the Man Of Steel film. Interviewees include Amy Adams, Alessandro Juliani, Mackenzie Gray, Tahmoh Penikett, and David Paetkau.
– “Finale” Extended Edition, containing all of the sequences with Apokalips and Darkseid that were originally cut. It is said that about a half hour of extra footage will be spliced in, to make it like a 3D movie.
– Interview with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar detailing their original plan for the series finale, which involved a costume and “Chlois.”
– All of the extras from the original 2011 set.
But that’s not all!
Our spies have also told us to expect an animated movie based on “Guardian,” the first arc of Smallville Season 11 as presented by DC Comics. The original comic was written by Bryan Q. Miller. We hear that some elements from other arcs – including the return appearances of Kara and Lana Lang – will be featured in the first movie. That’s not the most exciting part, though – [almost] all of the original cast will be returning for the feature, including all of the series leads… except one: Apparently, the studio thinks that audiences will be confused by having Justin Hartley as the voice of Oliver Queen/the Green Arrow, so the role will be taken over by Arrow’s Stephen Amell.
Stay tuned for KryptonSite for more details on when this set will become available. You can see more details about the set – as well as pre-order already – right here.
