Smallville Guest Rutger Hauer Has Passed Away

Rutger Hauer, who was the first actor to play Morgan Edge in the Smallville Season 3 episodes “Exile” and “Phoenix,” has died at age 75. He passed away last week in the Netherlands and his funeral happened on Wednesday. His death was preceded by a brief illness.

Hauer is probably most well known for his role in Blade Runner; soon after appearing on Smallville, he re-entered the DC world in Batman Begins.

Hauer played the Morgan Edge characters in the season premiere for Season 3 and the episode after it, bringing the season opener a lot of positive publicity; when the character returned for “Shattered,” Hauer was not available, so the role was taken over by Patrick Bergin after the character had gotten plastic surgery. Our sympathies go to the actor’s friends, co-workers, and fans.
