Phil Morris Would Revisit John Jones For Crisis On Infinite Earths

Starting with the sixth season of The CW series Smallville, Phil Morris became one of the few actors who has played J’Onn J’Onzz, The Martian Manhunter in live action, though on the series he mostly went by the alias “John Jones.” He made several appearances on the series, including the Geoff Johns-penned “Absolute Justice,” but sadly didn’t make a return engagement in the final year.

Morris returns to the world of DC Comics television as Silas Stone, father of Victor Stone (Cyborg), this Friday in the DC Universe series Doom Patrol. (He’s actually the second Smallville actor to play Stone; Joe Morton played the character in the DCEU.) We interviewed Morris about his new role for a larger feature running later this week, but we couldn’t resist having the chance to ask him a question that any actor from DC TV past might be asked: Would he like to show up on this year’s DC TV Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover on The CW, and more specifically, would be up for revisiting the John Jones character that he played on Smallville in the crossover?

“I love John Jones,” Morris said enthusiastically. “I just thought he was so fantastic, so the short answer is ‘yes,’ I would revisit John Jones in a heart beat, and lend his humanity – even though he is from Mars – and his abilities to the proceedings. If they were to ask, I would show up in a heartbeat, my brother.”

Last year’s Elseworlds event showed a dead Justin Hartley Green Arrow as well as featured the return of John Wesley Shipp’s Flash as he played in the 1990 Flash TV series. And hey — who wouldn’t want to see Morris’ Martian Manhunter side by side with the one that David Harewood plays on Supergirl? Producers, get on this!

New episodes of Doom Patrol release Fridays on DC Universe. Stay tuned to our general TV news site KSiteTV for the full Phil Morris interview later this week!
