show ratings and how things do are always a surprise.
Last
season, Smallville faced Survivor, The OC, Everybody
Hates Chris, and Alias - and did surprisingly well.
This
year, the show no longer has UPN to worry about, but it, and
most everything else in its time period, was beaten by an Ugly
stick - the surprise success on ABC, Ugly Betty.
The
good news is, ratings are down across the board for shows on
the new CW Network, so it's not as though Smallville
is underperforming - 7th Heaven and Gilmore Girls
were also down from last year's premieres, and ratings for Runaway,
the CW's new series, were embarrassingly low. The only show
to visibly benefit thus far from the network merge has been
America's Next Top Model. And hey, through all of this
the CW still made it sound like
Smallville came out a winner this week, so if they're
happy, we're happy.
And...
there's some good stuff coming for Smallville in the
upcoming weeks. As more people discover the CW, things could
easily go up.
