Metropolis Is Being Redeveloped At DC Universe

The Metropolis series is being redeveloped.

Today, a name for the upcoming DC Comics digital service has been confirmed: DC Universe — and logos for shows including Titans were revealed. It was also announced that a Swamp Thing series is coming from Smallville alum Mark Verheiden!

There was one project, though, that was missing from the announcement: Metropolis. We are hearing that the series, which would have featured Lois Lane and Lex Luthor in Superman’s home city, is not dead, but it is being redeveloped, so we assume that is why it is not part of that initial crop of programming.

(Hey, WB, if you’re looking for new producers we have five words for you: “Craig Byrne and Derek Russell!” If that doesn’t work, how about five others: “Alfred Gough and Miles Millar?”)

But hey, Swamp Thing! That should be pretty cool right?

I was sold on the original premise of Metropolis, but perhaps they’ll actually decide to make this a full-on Superman show set on Earth-38 of the Arrowverse and starring Tyler Hoechlin! That would be awesome! Oh, and I would be all for either one of those potential showrunner duos ;)!

One Metropolis Writer Is Now Known

David Paul Francis will be writing for the Metropolis TV series.

We haven’t known much yet about the creative talents involved with the Metropolis TV series beyond John Stephens and Danny Cannon… but now, a small puzzle piece, at least, is known.

Writer/producer David Paul Francis revealed on Twitter that he is moving from Krypton to Metropolis… yes, he’s worked on both Super-shows within the past year! His super-powered adventure started, however, with Powers in 2015, the adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis comics that sadly was really hard to find and sell to new viewers, since “you can watch it on your Playstation” wasn’t in every person’s vocabulary. We’re assuming Francis’ next move will be to Supergirl or the inevitable Smallville reboot that will come in a few years. (Kidding. There are no plans for a Smallville reboot right now.)

You can find and follow David Paul Francis on Twitter at @dpfrancis1985. If the Metropolis show is now staffing writers, hopefully that means we’ll have more news about it soon!

Metropolis, featuring the city of tomorrow before Superman arrived and instead focusing on Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, is due to arrive on DC Comics’ streaming service in 2019.

Metropolis Not Filming In New York After All?

The DC Digital series Metropolis might not be filming in New York.

Published

Despite a production listing noting a June start for Metropolis to film in New York, we are hearing unconfirmed reports that the show will actually be filming in a different city. Perhaps to provide a very different look from Gotham?

(No, the “different city” is not Vancouver.)

Do note that the original production report was not confirmed by the studio, nor was this follow-up. Studios rarely comment on production developments like these so we’re reliant on production charts and that sort of things for our information.

Here’s the official logline for the show, which will be coming to DC’s upcoming digital streaming service in 2019:

Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis, based on the DC characters, follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.

Metropolis To Start Filming In June

A production list may have revealed a start date and filming location for Metropolis.

Published

on

There hasn’t been much news yet about the upcoming Metropolis series coming to the DC Comics streaming service, but if a listing at Production Weekly is to be believed, there should be a lot of movement including casting very soon, as the show is aiming to shoot between June and December of this year.

Metropolis is expected to premiere in 2019, so this is hardly surprising.

The production list also notes that the show will be filming in New York City. Gotham (also directed by Danny Cannon and produced by John Stephens) is currently also shot in that metropolis, whereas most other DC TV shows aside from Titans and Black Lightning have shot in Vancouver in recent years. We had heard that Chicago had at least been considered for this series; if the production list is right, that is no longer happening.

Here’s how the project is described:

Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis, based on the DC characters, follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.
