Every Episode of L&C Ever Made!

Here you'll find an episode guide detailing EVERY episode of "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" made to date. You'll also be able to find a nifty L&C timeline.

Here's what was happening BEFORE "Lois & Clark" hit the airwaves in September 1993....

L&C TIMELINE: 1985-1986

Teri Hatcher gets her first TV role, as Amy the Love Boat Mermaid, on the final season of "The Love Boat." You can recognize these episodes because it was the only season to have the theme song sung by psychic-hotline queen Dionne Warwick.

L&C TIMELINE: 1989

The idea was thrown around for a TV show called "Lois Lane's Daily Planet." It took four years for the ideas for this show to evolve; and once Deborah Joy Levine was brought on, she put together what eventually became "Lois & Clark."

L&C TIMELINE: NOVEMBER 18, 1992

Comic book stores everywhere are flooded with people wanting copies of the comic "Superman #75," featuring the "death" of Superman. Prices rose to up to $100. The character of Superman was finally in the limelight once more.

L&C TIMELINE: EARLY 1993

The following is from an article in the May 1993 issue of WIZARD magazine, by Andy Mangels:

"More exclusive news on Lorimar's new 'Superman' series, word of which was rocketed to Earth here last month. ABC recently put in the order for a two-hour pilot film called 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.' Deborah Joy Levine ('Equal Justice') not only wrote the pilot, but she's also co-producing the series. ABC has asked for 'pilot plus six,' meaning six more one-hour episodes are now being written if the show gets picked up for Fall airing!

"As it might be clear from the title, 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' will be a more relationship-oriented show than previous incarnations. Publicists say that it is heavy on realistic newsroom drama, almost a 'Lou Grant' with a superhero (while insiders say it has a touch of 'Moonlighting' as well). The stories do not reflect current continuity; Lois doesn't know Clark and Superman are one and the same, and they aren't engaged. Though Jimmy Olsen is in the series, viewers may be surprised at the new Perry White; he's black! Finally, while the producers wouldn't comment on future super villians, Lex Luthor is in the pilot script."

Noticably, by the time the show was finally casted, the actor finally chosen to play Perry, Lane Smith, was not an African-American, even though it also said so in the next article by Mangels, in the July 1993 WIZARD....

"Dean Cain, a little-known actor who was recently seen on two episodes of 'Beverly Hills, 90210,' has nailed down the plum part of Clark Kent/Superman on 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.' The 26-year-old Cain is an ex-football player from Princeton who was a Buffalo Bills draftee until he injured his knee. Sources say he looks younger than either of the 'Superboy' actors. Teri Hatcher is the '90's version of Lois Lane. Hatcher's big credit was playing Sylvester Stallone's sister in 'Tango & Cash.' Other cast members include Lane Smith as a black Perry White, Michael Landes as Jimmy Olsen, and John Shea as Lex Luthor."

For the first season of "L&C," the cast included DEAN CAIN as Clark Kent/Superman, TERI HATCHER as Lois Lane, LANE SMITH as Perry White, MICHAEL LANDES as Jimmy Olsen, TRACY SCOGGINS as Catherine "Cat" Grant, K CALLAN as Martha Kent, EDDIE JONES as Jonathan Kent, and JOHN SHEA as Lex Luthor. Krypton Rating: (Craig) A (Dan) A+

Clark Kent is a super guy who has travelled the world, but his biggest dream was to someday write for the Daily Planet, one of the greatest newspapers in the world. To do this, Clark travels to Metropolis, and, even though he was rejected at firsts, lands a job at the Daily Planet, where he meets a sexy but feisty reporter named Lois Lane. "Don't fall for me, farmboy," she says to Clark, but, alas, he already has.

The episode's "villain plot" deals with a space program of which Lex Luthor would like to take control.

SPECIAL NOTES: Elizabeth Barondes, as Lucy Lane, is listed in the opening credits of the show. Also, two versions of this episode aired. The first, the two-hour premiere, aired in September 1993; and the second was the two-part version which aired that December. The two-part version has several scenes that were not in the original version aired in September.

L&C TIMELINE: SEPTEMBER 19, 1993

Even though "L&C" was pre-empted this week, Dean and Teri appeared that night on the Emmy Awards, where they presented awards. This episode features quite a bit of sexual tension as well.

SPECIAL NOTE: This was actually #12 in the order of production. For some reason the episode that ended up being #13, "Witness," was pushed back a month. If you watch "Witness" closely you'll notice some Christmas decorations.

L&C TIMELINE: DECEMBER 1993

ABC shows the pilot episode of "Lois & Clark" in two parts on two consecutive Wednesday nights. The reruns feature footage not shown in the original airing, and the unannounced showing of "L&C" produces some of the best ratings "L&C" had in its entire first season.

#18 "VATMAN"

Teleplay: H.B. Cobb & Deborah Joy LeVine Story by: H.B. Cobb Air date: March 13, 1994 Guest Star: Michael McKean Krypton Rating: (Craig) B, (Dan) B-

Superman's stopping a plane from crashing in Paris. Clark's working on a story in the Daily Planet office. Both things are happening at the same time. Wait a minute... aren't Clark and Superman supposed to be the same person? Lex Luthor creates a clone of Superman to do his bidding in this action-filled episode.

SPECIAL NOTES: The tour tram that rode past the Superman/Vatman fight was actually a Warner Bros. tour tram. Believe it or not. The "western town" where they fought was also where they did the second season episode Tempus Fugitive.

SPECIAL NOTE: This is the last episode to feature Tracy Scoggins as Cat Grant.

L&C TIMELINE: APRIL 1994

FOLCs sit through their first major battle with LCWS (Lois and Clark Withdrawal Syndrome), having gone through 33 days of LCWS before the season finale aired.

#20 "BARBARIANS AT THE PLANET"

Krypton Rating: (Craig) A+, (Dan) A+

Lois is given a surprise when Lex Luthor asks her hand in marriage. Lois wants to see if she still has any chance with Superman, and when Superman pushes her away, it pushes Lois closer and closer to Luthor. To try to stop Lois from marrying Luthor, Clark reveals his true feelings to Lois; alas, it is too late.

Also in this episode Jack is framed for placing a bomb in the Daily Planet workrooms and destroying the building. While this was really the work of Lex Luthor, no one knows that, and Jack is sent to the juvenile detention center.

SPECIAL NOTES: Tracy Scoggins was not in this episode as Cat Grant; however, she was written in to the original script. The original script had "Cat" reunited with her ex-husband. They fall in love again, and Cat leaves town. Apparently Scoggins didn't feel like staying for two more episodes (her last was #19 "Fly Hard"), and many of Cat's lines were written out and/or given to other characters.

#21 "FALL OF THE HOUSE OF LUTHOR"

Written by: Deborah Joy LeVine and Dan LeVine Guest Stars: Chris Demetral as Jack, and Richard Belzer Special Guest Stars: Beverly Johnson, Phyllis Coates Special Appearance: James Earl Jones as "Franklin Stern" Krypton Club Quotes: "Lois Lane Luthor, Lois Lane... Is Lois actually going to go through with it? It appears that way. Clark, Perry, Jimmy, and Jack try to uncover the truth behind the bombing of the Daily Planet, to clear Jack's name, bring the Planet back, and put Lex Luthor where he belongs. When the cops reach Luthor (at Lex & Lois's wedding ceremony), Luthor runs up to the top floor of the building and jumps to his (apparent) doom. At episode's end Clark reveals to Lois that he was lying when he revealed his feelings for her.

SPECIAL NOTES: This episode was one of the first times Lois admitted to herself that she loved Clark, in the famous "Lois Lane Luthor, Lois Lane, Lois Lane... Kent" scene. This episode also guest-starred Phyllis Coates as Lois's mom. Coates was best known for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the 1950's "Superman" TV series. This episode is also the final episodes for several people--executive producer Deborah Joy LeVine, Michael Landes, John Shea, and Chris Demetral, all of whom did not return for season 2.

For the second season of "L&C," the cast included DEAN CAIN as Clark Kent/Superman, TERI HATCHER as Lois Lane, LANE SMITH as Perry White, JUSTIN WHALIN as Jimmy Olsen, K CALLAN as Martha Kent, and EDDIE JONES as Jonathan Kent. Lex Luthor's ex-wife comes to town, and she's gunning after Lois--the woman whom Lex almost married.

SPECIAL NOTES: Many minutes of this episode were unseen on the East Coast during the first airing, as Jimmy Carter got off a plane from Haiti. While the "special news" was forgettable, the episode became much better the second time, when it finally re-aired on the East Coast. This episode was also the first episode to feature Justin Whalin in the role of Jimmy Olsen. Also, the opening credits for this episode were different than any other episode of "Lois & Clark"'s second season.

Superman fights a foe he may not be able to win against--the legal sistem--as he is sued for injuring one of those people whose lives he had saved. Superman's only hope is finding an honest lawyer in Metropolis. Meanwhile, Clark must decide who's more important to the world--Clark Kent or Superman--and Lois must decide who's more important to her--Clark or Scardino.

SPECIAL NOTES: "Batman"'s Adam West and Frank Gorshin make appearances in this episode. This episode is also interrupted in many parts by "Marlin Finch Loopus"'s nature TV show, with its metaphors to the episode.

"Lois, will you marry me?," "Clark...." Krypton Rating: (Craig) A, (Dan) A-

Clark must rob a jewelry store or his true identity and his parents will be harmed. When he is ordered to kill Lois, will his plan of putting her in "suspended animation" actually work? When he is finally reunited with Lois, Clark decides that they shouldn't take life so slowly, because not everyone is immortal... and he proposes to her.

SPECIAL NOTE: Three endings to this episode were filmed. The first ending ended with "Clark....," and it was shown at the tail end of "And The Answer Is." Strangely, "We Have A Lot To Talk About," the third season premiere, opened with Lois saying "Who's asking, Clark or Superman?" There was also a third ending, with Lois saying "Yes," that was never used. All of these endings were filmed for this episode, and the decision to use the "Clark..." was made at the last minute.
