It looks like Natalie Irons might be following the trajectory of her comic book counterpart of Natasha as last week’s Superman & Lois episode “Lies That Bind” revealed that Natalie is developing a suit of armor of her own. This new armor may possibly be even more advanced than what her father John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) wears, and that might come in handy when it’s all hands on deck to fight against Ally Allston.
KryptonSite’s Craig Byrne got to speak with Tayler Buck about the armor and some other Superman & Lois items for her character of Natalie; some things will have to wait for after tonight’s ALL-NEW episode (“All Is Lost,” airing at 8PM June 7 on The CW, see some photos here!) has aired. So, enjoy Part 1 of this interview below, and be sure to follow us on Twitter @SupermanLoisTV for updates on when Part 2 may surface!
KRYPTONSITE: How long do you think Natalie has been thinking about making her own armor for herself?
TAYLER BUCK: I think it was in episode four, when she saw her dad fly by. He was supposed to sort of take a step back, and he said he wasn’t going to go out as much with Superman. But I think after that, she maybe got the idea in her head of “who’s going to be there to protect my dad?” He’s out there protecting Superman and having his back, but who’s looking out for him?
I know that’s something she’s worried about just because he’s all that she has left. And that’s so important to her. She just lost her mom. Of course, she’s not over that. And she wants to be there for him. She wants to protect him. So I’m sure that started forming in her mind; that she’s been sort of wondering “well, how do I go about this? How do I start this?” and of course, she’s had a bit of practice helping her dad built his suit. I think that really came in handy.
How might John react if he finds out what Natalie has built?
I think he still views her as his little girl and he wants to protect her. And you know, she’s like, “well, I’m not really a little girl anymore. And I’ve been through so much. And I’ve had to worry about you and protect you. So I’m not sure how he’s going to take it. I doubt he’ll be jumping for joy over his daughter going out to battle, but maybe we’ll get there.
Can you talk about working with Wolé Parks as a scene partner?
My favorite scene partner! I absolutely love working with Wolé. I mean, it’s been pretty easy ever since we started. I remember last season in Episode 7 [“Man of Steel”], we had that flashback sort of scene. The goodbye scene. It’s just “I love you,” crying, goodbye, and, of course, we had never met before. We were just thrown into that, and it just worked. It’s great to have someone like Wolé to work with. He’s just the best scene partner. We just get along so well, and I think have great chemistry. It’s really, really nice to have him play my father.
Do you think with time we’ll see more of Natalie interacting with Lois?
I think so. I think it’s impossible not to, because Smallville a very small town. They’re going to interact, and I think she sort of needs that motherly figure. Who better than a woman that looks exactly like her mom? I think it might take a little bit of time for them to get to a close relationship, but it’s very possible. It could happen.
Come back soon for more from Tayler Buck and don’t miss a NEW Superman & Lois June 7 at 8PM on The CW!
