KryptonSite Interview: Emmanuelle Chriqui Previews “Tried and True” Superman & Lois Episode

The March 1 episode of Superman & Lois titled “Tried and True” is a showcase for the talents of Emmanuelle Chriqui as we see the fallout of the revelations that came at Sarah’s quinceanara and how it affects the Cushing family. KryptonSite’s Craig Byrne was able to speak with Chriqui to preview what’s coming up; look for a follow-up piece about the aftermath to be posted on KryptonSite either tonight after the episode has aired or tomorrow (Follow @SupermanLoisTV – no underscores – on Twitter for updates on when it’s out!)

You can find the interview below, and if you haven’t read it yet, we spoke with director Amy Jo Johnson (yes, that Amy Jo Johnson!) this week as well!

KRYPTONSITE’S CRAIG BYRNE: Last week, Lana seemed to be a bit unsurprised about “the woman from the bar.” How long did Lana suspect this?

EMMANUELLE CHRIQUI: That’s a really good question, because she wasn’t surprised. I think she probably knew that there were some not-so-kosher flirtations going on, but she really thought that it was over and done. I think that she obviously knew about it, and was more just distraught and angry to hear that this woman has resurfaced yet again, thinking we’ve moved past this.

Can you talk about the support system of people that Lana has to talk to about this kind of situation?

She’s going to be relying very heavily on her daughter, but that has so many boundaries, because she can’t say anything bad to Sarah. But I would say you that definitely Lois, and definitely Clark, and definitely Emily Phan and some of the community ladies. And I think, too, that she’s also just going to be pretty distracted. She’s really amping up for this mayoral election I think [the election is] a welcome distraction to her.

Can you preview the scene in “Tried and True” where Lana talks to Clark about this situation?

Post-quinceanara, they meet at the diner, and Lana is so distraught. And here we see that Clark shows up for his friend fully and completely, and lets her know that he is there for her. They have a very candid and very transparent conversation. I think that the takeaway from that scene is that genuinely, these two have such a deep friendship, and that it’s a friendship. It isn’t more than a friendship.

How is Kyle trying to apologize for what has happened?

He wants to talk, and he wants to apologize, and Lana just can’t hear it right now. Lana just needs to process it. She needs to just be like “yo, this is a big bomb and I’m hurt, I need you to leave. I can’t have you in my space right now.” And I think she’s entitled to that.

Is Lana worried about Sarah, who just had her quinceanera ruined?

She’s not. I wouldn’t say that Lana’s that concerned about Sarah’s ruined quinceanera. At all. I think if anything, Lana is astounded by the strength of her daughter, and really feels that Sarah is not to be underestimated. Lana really respects Sarah. I think all of the things that she says In last week’s episode about her strength, and her convictions as a person, and her courage and just who she is, she really believes that about her daughter.

Do you think Sarah’s resolve might be inspiration for Lana, the candidate?

Oh, subconsciously, for sure!

What would you like to say to the fans will be reading this about why they should tune in on Tuesday night?

It’s a wild ride, and it’s also got a whole ton of heart, as well. The two things that we do so well, they really happen in Episode 6.
