Jensen
Ackles In Smallville: The Comic #11
Smallville: The Comic #11 features an interview with
Jensen Ackles (Jason). Here are some highlights from
the interview...
On
his original audition for Smallville in 2001, which had
him auditioning for a different role, that of Clark Kent....
"It
got pretty close and actually came down to Tom and me. We had
to go back a couple of times to the network and they ultimately
went with Tom which I thought made sense because he looks more
the part than I do. Watching the past three seasons, I'd say
they made the right choice."
About
taking on the role of Jason Teague...
"Al
and Miles pitched me a story arc of Jason coming in and being
introduced as Lana's boyfriend. At first, it was cool and the
show is a great success, but I didn't necessarily want to come
on board and be window dressing or another Whitney. But what
really caught my interest was when they started going on about
how Jason would be tied into the mythology aspect of it and
would be used as a catalyst of some sort for Clark."
Atmosphere
on the set...
"We
play jokes on each other. Michael decided to do a take on his
coverage that was extremely flamboyant gay man but he didn't
catch me off guard. I went ahead and played it straight back
at him. I talked to Al and he said that homosexual take will
make it to the blooper reel. The other day Tom, Kristin and
I had a scene and Tom had to come in and say this one line but
there was a word he couldn't remember. Started with a "V,"
like valor or vibrant. He kept saying the wrong word so I wrote
it on a piece of paper and taped it on my forehead. After three
takes he was still messing up so I wrote it on another piece
of paper and tattooed it on Kristin's forehead. So then we're
both standing there when he walked into the scene and the cameras
were only on him. It's a comfortable set."
Jensen
also talks about where Jason falls on the scale of good and
evil between Clark and Lex, worries that fans would hate the
character because of the history of Clark and Lana, his very
attractive co-stars, and more.... including the tidbit that
Ackles once auditioned for Brett Ratner for the role of Superman!
