Warning: Spoilers for the Supergirl Season 3 finale “Battles Lost and Won” are being discussed within.
The Supergirl season finale has now aired, and in one of the final scenes, in Siberia, we see… Kara Danvers?
A big fan theory so far is that it’s the Kara of another world, who we of course know as Power Girl in the comic books. Power Girl, who in the original comics was the Kara Zor-L of Earth-2, first appeared in comics back in All-Star Comics #58 over 40 years ago. Power Girl in the comics has a much different personality than comics’ Kara; most artists also portray her with very big… well, you can see a picture of her to your right.
There are other possibilities, of course. It could somehow be an amnesiac Kara, or it could be a somehow revived Overgirl. Maybe we’re getting the Supergirl equivalent of Superman: Red Son. We will know for sure this Fall when Supergirl moves to Sundays for Season 4!
UPDATE: Apparently the show’s producers didn’t want us speculating, because they confirmed to TV Line that it is, indeed, a Kara inspired by the “Red Son” storyline. You can read the full TV Line piece here.
“For fans of the comics, I think they might recognize that the story we want to tell is inspired by the iconic DC Comics’ Red Son, which told an alternate origin story for Superman,” Rovner told TVLine, to which Queller added, “What happened if — as a baby — Superman landed in Russia and became a hero there instead of in America. It’s an homage to that.”
