Patterned from the success of the Batman ’66 comic book series, we are hearing that DC’s next trip into classic TV will go back to that magical time we all called the Nineties. You know, the time when 40,000 downloads made something “the most downloaded photo ever” and Superman TV came by way of Moonlighting.
KryptonSite has learned that the next digital-first initiative from DC Comics will be Lois & Clark ’93… a series based on the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman which was developed by Deborah Joy LeVine and starred Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain. LeVine is, at this time at least, not involved with the present-day stories, but we are told that she may be a creative consultant on this project.
More exciting for us are the creators that will be involved. Remember those artists and writers who gave us stories like The Death and Return of Superman, the coming of Conduit, Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite, and more? Rumor has it that at least eight of them are involved — and as a tribute to that great comic book era, “triangle numbers” will be seen on the digital covers of each weekly Lois & Clark chapter. Also as a bonus, even though the Lois & Clark costume was always a little darker, Superman will be wearing his red trunks on the outside.
Despite the ’93 in the title, we hear the first arc will cover the summer between the show’s first two seasons, as the Daily Planet is being rebuilt, Cat Grant is off to parts unknown, and Jimmy gets a new look – a storyline that will be reflected in the comic. In real life, those episodes would have happened in 1994.
As we mentioned, DC Comics has not officially commented or confirmed this, but we can hope there will be an announcement at WonderCon in a few weeks.
