Creation Entertainment has scheduled the first-ever Smallville fan convention for October 2024.

While the stars of Smallville have been doing the rounds at conventions for several years, the show has never had a dedicated convention like the ones that fans of, say, Supernatural get to enjoy. Until now.

Creation Entertainment has announced their first-ever “Salute to Smallville” convention at the Hilton Parsippany Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey. It will be held October 5 and 6 of this year and most of the show’s important players are scheduled to be there. This roster of guests includes the following actors from the show so far:

Tom Welling (Clark Kent)
Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor)
Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang)
Erica Durance (Lois Lane)
Laura Vandervoort (Kara)
John Glover (Lionel Luthor)
and Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen)

Fans will have the opportunity to purchase photos or autographs with the actors with the prices being listed on the Creation website. There will also be trivia, a Smallville cosplay contest, and for an additional cost, Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are bringing their Smallville Nights to the event. If you have not attended Smallville Nights before, it’s a fantastic time full of stories and Smallville-inspired fun, hosted by “Clark” and “Lex” themselves.

You can purchase tickets and autographs in advance by visiting the Creation Salute to Smallville website here. Let’s give them a good turnout so they do more events like this!

They need to add more side events focusing on the other cast members besides Tom & Michael. I, for one, would be far more interested in a Lois and Clark themed Smallville Nights rather than Lex and Clark. They also need to sweeten the experience by either having their own dunk tank and putting Tom in it or having him wear a red jacket and blue t-shirt or a suit and tie with glasses for the professional photo ops. How about a karaoke themed party hosted by the ladies of Smallville? Come on people get creative, it needs to be better than the other conventions we’ve already gone to.

Salute to Smallville: Stars Preview The October Convention

The stars of Smallville have released a video promoting the upcoming Salute to Smallville convention in New Jersey.

Last week, we posted an article about the first ever Smallville fan convention, “Salute to Smallville” hosted by Creation Entertainment, which is happening in New Jersey in October. Guests from the Smallville series including Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance, Laura Vandervoort, John Glover, and Aaron Ashmore are all expected to attend.

Today, Kristin, Michael, and Tom did an announcement video for the event where they also hyped up the always-worth-seeing “Smallville Nights” in addition to the two days of awesomeness that are scheduled. This is an opportunity to not only see the stars of Smallville, but also to meet other Smallville fans and see vendors selling Smallville items. (Maybe they’ll have a few good books about the show!) In any event, you can see what the trio shared below, and you can purchase tickets to “Salute to Smallville” here.

Marc Guggenheim on Why We Didn’t See Smallville’s Fate in Crisis on Infinite Earths

Arrowverse showrunner Marc Guggenheim discusses why we didn’t see confirmation of Smallville’s survival at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

In late 2019, Smallville returned for one scene only in The CW’s multi-show Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, as Tom Welling and Erica Durance reprised their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in an episode of Batwoman. The scene took place on “Earth-167” and was written by Smallville veterans Don Whitehead and Holly Henderson, but many fans were left wondering why we didn’t get to see that the characters from Smallville were restored at the end of the crossover, where we learned that other Earths such as the ones occupied by Swamp Thing, the Titans, and Brandon Routh’s Superman had been brought back into the multiverse by Stephen Amell’s Spectre.

Andy Behbakht of Multiverse of Color had Arrowverse showrunner Marc Guggenheim on his Showrunner Whisperer podcast which dropped part 1 today, and he addressed the omission.

“Why didn’t we have Smallville? I’ll be honest with you. I think it was two reasons,” Guggenheim responded. “Number one, it never occurred to me until I got the question on Twitter that people think we did blow up the Smallville universe. So part of it was that, and part of it was, we’d obviously seen Clark and Lois in episode two. For the most part, the ‘going around the horn’ [closing sequence] was to see all the universes and all the characters that we didn’t get to see,” he continued.

Guggenheim confirmed that if he had it to do all over again, that it would be “awesome” to have a shot of Lois and Clark on the farm kissing within that sequence. “But yeah, sorry, I dropped the ball on that,” he admitted. Additionally, under SAG rules, an actor gets paid for each episode they appear in, and Tom Welling was only contracted for the second episode. “We certainly didn’t have the money for that, but that really wasn’t a factor. It, quite frankly, just didn’t occur to me,” Marc said.

Review: Rosenbaum & Welling’s Live TalkVille Show Is A Success

The first live Smallville TalkVille Podcast event from Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum was a fantastic experience.

Published

Several weeks ago, Smallville stars Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling took their “TalkVille” podcast and made it a live performance combined with their exclusive “Smallville Nights” that they’ve had on the convention circuit. Their first stop — extended to two shows after the first sold out — was at the Bourbon Room in Hollywood.

I’ve long said that for fans of the show, it’s costly but you need to do “Smallville Nights” at least once. It’s an interactive thing where fans get to re-enact scenes with the actors themselves, and all get the chance to offer the perfect delivery for “I am the villain of the story!” At the live TalkVille event, this was especially cool because each and every attendee got the chance to do the thing.

The “TalkVille” element of the show was different from I at least hda originally expected — it was more of a freeform discussion between Rosenbaum and Welling, discussing some of their favorite memories of the show, and answering questions from the audience. It would have been fun to see them do an actual show from the podcast in front of the audience, but realistically, that could be a recipe for disaster in case any cuts are needed or anything like that.

One strong thing I felt when watching Tom and Michael on stage is that the source of one of the criticisms of the podcast seems to be identified: Sometimes it has been noted that Michael would interrupt or speak over Tom, when it appears the actual problem is that when recording the podcast, there’s a slight video delay so Michael might not even realize he is talking. So, it’s not a matter of being rude, but perhaps a technical difficulty that might be solved in a future show or two where Tom actually recorded in person at the studio. Both guys (and Ryan!) got time to talk at this event, and there wasn’t any such interruption.

There were some stories told at the event that I didn’t even know or realize — for example, how Kristin Kreuk helped Tom with his audition. Both had a gratitude for the show and I think events like these really make them see it first hand. Tom joked more than once that he tried to cancel the event, but he seemed to do really well with it when it happened. I was touched and surprised that I got a few shoutouts in person… and even hugs when the guys realized I was there! Sadly, there weren’t any individual photo ops or anything, but the memories will remain very strong, and there was a very cool “poster” given to all attendees with awesome artwork by Mickael Journou (MikePosters on Instgram). You can see that artwork up above; hopefully it’s okay that it was used for this post. Apparently, this art was also being sold on a T-shirt, but I didn’t see one!

Beyond getting to see two of the leads of Smallville, a great part of the night was a 45 minute to an hour intermission between Smallville Nights and the TalkVille presentation, and that was also a lot of fun because it gave the opportunity to meet other fans and talk. So many of us started watching the show at different times and it was so much fun to share those experiences with one another. After all, we were all there because of loving Smallville! It was just a lot of positivity and fun, and I met some cool people and hopefully made some cool new friends.

As someone who has covered the show since the beginning, it is also really fun to see Tom being joyful about talking about the show. It really highlights how overwhelmed he must have been when the show was on the air. I still can tell when fans are recreating scenes from Smallville that he still thinks like a director, which is so cool. He’s also such a dad now. His shoes were sticky so he took them off to reveal neon socks, which were actually not as uncool as he thought because…. maybe it was kryptonite. Haha. Still, all in all a good time!

Any negative feedback? A venue with easier parking and a less expensive menu would be nice, but as for the show itself, it was a great time. If and when the TalkVille guys do this again, I highly recommend that you check it out.
