Season 2 DVD: What I'd Like To See
Written by Craig Byrne - KryptonSite Webmaster

The folks at Warner Home Video are likely to be hard at work putting together a Season 2 Smallville DVD set, and even though most if it is likely all planned out already, I figured I'd take a moment to share what *I* would like to see in the DVD set.

I understand that no fan can totally have every expectation met; after all, the Season 1 DVD was successful despite the lack of too many extras. But how are they so sure that everyone who bought Season 1 will be back for a second helping? So, here I am with my list of things I want to see:

1 - Commentaries.
Now I know the Smallville production crew is a busy bunch, but I hope there's at least one commentary in this set. If the executive producers are too busy (although they are still welcome) how about getting some of the actors to talk about the episodes? Or individual writers, like Mark Verheiden on "Heat" or Jeph Loeb and Ken Biller on "Insurgence?" There are surely a lot of great stories to be told; here is a great forum to do it. If commentaries are not capable how about production note subtitles like you see on so many movies these days, with bits of trivia?

2 - Deleted Scenes and Outtakes.
I know I felt a little disappointed last year, when the only "Deleted Scenes" were bits unearthed for the Canadian Pilot DVD. Come on, we know there's some scenes out there with Lex and Desiree from "Heat." Let's have 'em. Were there any bits of Tom Welling and Christopher Reeve on the cutting room floor? Let's see them. And you can't really tell me that not even one blooper could be available for us to see. Please? If I ask nicely?

3 - Trailers.
Part of the joy of watching the episodes taped from airing nights is the whole "An all-new Smallville" routine. Any chance we could see some more of those? Even if it's just the "Exile" trailer at the end of "Exodus," so people know to buy the Season 3 set whenever it may be due.

4 - The Chloe Chronicles.
A series of four "webisodes" starring Allison Mack herself and set around the end of Season 2. Heck, why not throw in the Luthorcorp Annual Report from Season 1 while you're at it. These were as much a part of the second season as what we saw on the screen, and add to the overall mythos that the show still continues toward.

5 - The Original Music.
The Season 1 set was successful in keeping the original music from the episodes. I'm hoping Season 2 will do the same thing. Hey, WB - you like product placement, maybe include a music video or two from artists featured on the show? You could even get Sam Jones III as Pete to do the intros - he hasn't been too busy lately.

6 - Behind The Scenes Stuff.
Some behind the scenes documentaries have aired in Canada and the United Kingdom; is there any chance those could land in the set? Or perhaps a new documentary would be good. Either way, it's something I'd like to see.

7 - The Same Cool Design.
I was VERY impressed with the menus and general design of the Season One DVD set. Hopefully Season Two will give us more of the same.
