19 years ago when Kristin Kreuk started on Smallville, she wasn’t the first actress to play Lana Lang, and in fact, a former “Lana” appeared on the show with her, as Clark Kent’s mother was played by Annette O’Toole of Superman III fame. Now, with Superman & Lois approaching in January 2021 with Emmanuelle Chriqui in the role of Lana, the Lana Lang legacy continues.
TVLine interviewed Kristin Kreuk recently and asked her about the notion of someone new taking on the iconic role. You can read the entire interview here. In the piece, Kreuk — who now stars on Burden of Truth for The CW — told the website that the idea of seeing Lana’s legacy live on is “great.”
“I don’t know a ton about the show, but it sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Kristin said. She’s a great character, and with the freedom that’s afforded creators right now in regards to comic book characters, I think they can adjust and adapt her into a more modern position in the world.”
“I imagine that Lana is a very different character in a different universe,” Kristin said about this new take on the character. “I am excited to… hear about how the show portrays her. She’s an interesting character in the canon, so having her be in a predominant role on this new show is awesome.” Kreuk also had very kind things to say about Emmanuelle Chriqui, and talked about how “fun” it is to see Smallville incorporated in the current comic book shows. And, yes, she again has said she’d possibly guest star on an Arrowverse series if asked, “depending on what it was.”
