Apparently the news was supposed to come out this weekend at WonderCon, but a video teaser has already made its way online (see below) so the cat is out of the bag: HBO is doing a television series set in the DC Comics Cinematic Universe… starring Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

The series is called just that – Lois Lane – and because of Adams’ extremely busy and successful movie schedule, the first season is only eight episodes, but most surprising may be that the eight episodes have already been filmed! (Remember that Krypton thing for Syfy? Apparently it was a code word to cover up this production). From the appearance of the footage, it seems that Lois Lane – which also features appearances by Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent), as well as a quick flash of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman – takes place in the months between Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Justice League feature which is released in November. As Superman – spoiler warning! – is currently dead in the DC film universe, Henry Cavill probably won’t be showing up.

(We are assuming the filming is already done so that Lois Lane can premiere before the superhero team-up picture comes out in November 2017.)

Also very interesting in this leaked footage is the appearance of Bryan Cranston, who was once heavily rumored to be playing Lex Luthor. Could he be playing the father of the character played by Jesse Eisenberg? Heisenberg is the father of Eisenberg? We’ll have to see.

This isn’t the first time a Lois Lane TV series has been attempted; Lois & Clark got its start as a project called Lois Lane’s Daily Planet and Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar proposed a “Lois Lane in college” series shortly before they got the rights to be able to use Superman.

(In 2001, Amy Adams herself appeared on Smallville as one of the show’s earliest “meteor freaks.” Needless to say her career has moved far beyond sucking the fat out of a deer.)

HBO is an interesting choice for such a series, as well; we are assuming the show, set in the DCEU, is landing there because of their high budget and production quality. There are also rumblings that HBO may be close to a deal for multiple series set in the DCEU with a Zack Snyder Watchmen series as the flagship. Considering the role of the Watchmen in the current DC Universe, there could be a lot of reinventing going on.
