Starman
"Indefinitely On Hold"
|
POSTED 8/1/03 |
We
are sad to say that it seems the Starman TV
project is "indefinitely on hold"
at this time.
If
there are no more developments in the coming
months KnightsPast may at least temporarily
cease to exist, and be relocated at KryptonSite.
We can hope, however, that things improve.
UPDATE POSTED SIX YEARS LATER IN SEPT. 2009: Clearly nothing ever "improved," and the Starman TV series, unfortunately, never happened.

Tollin
and Robbins Fly To Touchstone
|
POSTED 4/20/03 |
Producers
Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins, who were behind
this Starman pilot development, have
signed a two-year deal with Touchstone Television.
The deal will involve developing a "multitude"
of projects for the Disney-owned Touchstone,
several of which could be going to ABC. This
actually might be the key that would put Starman
into the ABC door.
The
news
release made no mention of Starman;
only four other TRP pilots currently in production,
two of which will indeed be on ABC. As always,
we'll keep you updated.

Two
more details about the Starman television
pilot script are now posted at the newly-installed

What change is made to Jack Knight's profession?

In
case you missed last week's update, which
features a quote from Jack Knight's co-creator
Tony Harris and reveals which characters to
look forward to on the series, you can also
find that on that same
page.

The
Hollywood Reporter revealed in October 2002 that
the ABC television network has given a script commitment
to Starman, which they describe as "a
drama based on the comics that will center on a 25-year-old
former slacker who is forced to become a superhero
after his brother, the former Starman, is mysteriously
killed."
Starman,
which was popularized by James Robinson and Tony Harris
in the 1994-2001 comic, is the next project to come
from Tollin-Robbins Productions, the "brains"
behind Smallville and Birds of Prey.
John Gatins ("Hardball") is writing the
script, and Tollin-Robbins' Joe Davola, Brian Robbins,
and Mike Tollin will be executive producing.
Tony
Harris, who co-created the Jack Knight character
with James Robinson, had this to say about the prospect
of a Starman TV series:
"I
can say that I am really excited about the prospect
of a show based on something so near and dear to
my heart, and I think James echoes that sentiment.
We just hope that whatever comes can do the work
we poured love into justice. Stay tuned."
You
can visit Tony Harris's excellent website at http://www.jollyrogerstudio.com.
He says that as soon as he knows more he will be posting
on his site. He has also provided KnightsPast with
the image you can find to your left.
While
there was a movie and a well-liked television series
bearing the name, this is the first time a live-action
series has been made incorporating the character.
Like
KryptonSite
(for Smallville) and Gotham
Clock Tower (for Birds), this site aimed
to be a great source for Starman news and information, but with the series never happening, unfortunately this website - and the TV series - was a non-starter.
