Old Headlines
Planet Krypton and KryptonSite have been following the development of Smallville since the original announcements of a "teenage Clark Kent project" in September 2000. KryptonSite was the first-ever site devoted to Smallville, and with constant updates, it just hasn't been possible to keep everything on the main page.

Here are some of the headlines from September 21-25, 2001....

Network Execs Compliment Each Other's Shows
(9/25) Zap2it.com today had an article with quotes from executives from the major television networks as they shared what they thought of what the competition had to offer.

Of Smallville, Fox's Entertainment President Gail Berman said "I tried to get it myself.. It's good for the times." Zap2it also said that Berman praised Smallville for making an old concept work in an effective way.

Possibly-Bad News For Canadian Smallville Fans...
(9/25) There seem to be some crossed wires over the Internet over where exactly Canadian fans can find Smallville this Fall.

We are hearing the A Channel in Canada will be showing Smallville on Sundays at 7PM, which is good, and if anyone hears differently please write in. However, Rob Worley of Comics2Film reports that while GlobalTV will be showing Smallville at some point, they don't plan to air the series until next year, unfortunately.

If any Canadian fans hear more about where to find Smallville in Canada, please let us know. We're also not too sure how widespread the A Channel is, so the more resources we know of, the better it may be.

Sci-Fi Wire Talks To Tom Welling
(9/24) Scifi.com's Sci-Fi Wire recently spoke with Tom Welling about his new role playing the young Clark Kent in Smallville. In the brief interview, Tom revealed that he has gone into the role completely clear-minded from what has come before with the Superman comics or character, so he could completely make this "Clark Kent" his own.

When asked about the pressure of starring in a new series that critics have so quickly embraced after seeing the pilot, Tom said "I think we've got a great show here. The scripts are solid. I think we've got enough quality and substance that I don't feel the pressure. Also, we're up here in Vancouver, so I'm separated from a lot of the hype. We're just going to do good work and, hopefully, that will speak for itself."

You can read the complete interview/article here.

Smallville Gets Another Good Review
(9/24) Rob Owen of the Scripps-Howard News Service recently did a feature reviewing this Fall's new shows, and Smallville got another positive nod.

Of Smallville, he said "A respectful addition to Superman lore, Smallville has all the markings of a super series."

To read the rest of what Owen had to say about Smallville, and what he wrote about this Fall's other premieres, you can find his feature by going to the Augusta Chronicle website.

"What's going on between you and Lana?"Recap: Eric Johnson On The Chris Wylde Show
(9/24) Eric Johnson (who will be playing "Whitney Fordman" on Smallville) made an appearance on Comedy Central's Chris Wylde Show tonight. Unfortunately the pretty-obnoxious Wylde didn't give Eric much of a chance to talk about the show, but we did learn that Eric is playing "Whitney," this guy "who gets to kick Superman's [expletive deleted]." After that Chris Wylde reminded us that Jasmine Guy played "Whitley" on A Different World, and then he called Eric "Whitley" a few times.

Wylde ribbed Johnson a few times for being Canadian, and Eric talked about the award-winning movie "Scorn" that he did several years ago. Super-fans might have also noticed one of the bandmembers with a Superman "S" insignia on his t-shirt.

In case you missed it, the episode will be re-aired at 2:00 AM on September 25. Be warned that The Chris Wylde Show is *not* a show for the entire family, and in fact most of the time it's just raunchy and offensive. Luckily, Eric took the show with a good sense of humor. Until Lex Luthor calls himself "Baldy McBald Bald Jr.," that's it for now...

"Hardball" Hits #1 Again
(9/24) The Keanu Reeves baseball film "Hardball" has taken the #1 American box-office spot for the second weekend in a row.

"Hardball" is produced by Tollin-Robbins Productions, which is also the production company behind Smallville. Also, several fans have reported seeing Smallville previews before the movie.

More Smallville In The Media...
(9/23) EmotionalHermit has written in with some more sightings of Smallville in newspapers and on the web. Here's the latest:

The Salt Lake Tribune -- Lists Smallville as one of the top five new shows of the 2001-2002 TV season.
The Arizona Republic -- Features the recent Reuters article about the new season's many prequels, including Smallville.
The Evansville Courier & Press -- Has an article on this season's new crimefighters. It also has some quotes from Tom "Clark Kent" Welling.

WB Preview of Smallville: Thumbs Up!
(9/22) On Friday night preceding the special multi-network "Tribute to Heroes," the WB Network aired a half-hour-long preview of their new Friday night comedies for Fall 2001. After the comedies were previewed the WB presented a special preview of Smallville, which is still scheduled to premiere on October 16.

The new preview was very much like the original long preview shown at the May upfronts and on Zap2it.com, but it also incorporated Perry Farrell's "Song To Be Sung" as well as scenes with Annette O'Toole replacing Cynthia Ettinger as Martha Kent. [It should also be added that Annette O'Toole's delivery of the line "We didn't find him... he found us," which made me cringe when performed by Cynthia Ettinger, was *perfect* this time around... Smallville definitely now has the perfect cast -- KryptonSite webmaster Craig]. If you watched closely you could also find some scenes that appeared to be from Smallville's second or third episodes.

Who is Justin Chatwin? The Answer Revealed!
(9/22) A Vancouver-based actor whose previous credits include the "Josie and the Pussycats" film and a Christy TV movie was recently featured in the Vancouver Province newspaper where it mentioned an appearance on Smallville.

KryptonSite did some digging, and we found out what the scoop is on the 18-year-old snowboarding actor:

Justin was originally to have a part in the pilot, but it was cut when they decided to go with one hour rather than two. He did, however, seem to connect well with the crew, and he's hoping that would lead to a future guest appearance. The Province reporter apparently picked out the most recognizable names of projects he'd worked on, and thus, Smallville came up.

You can, however, see Justin in the upcoming film "Baby Geniuses 2." Hopefully, you might even find Justin in a future episode of Smallville!

Smallville Movie Trailers Spotted!
(9/21) It's true... trailers for Smallville have been spotted in movie theaters across the United States.

The very movie-like preview was recently spotted before the movie "The Musketeer" (the person who wrote in said "the movie sucked but the trailer was good"). Another fan saw Smallville as part of a 3-minute preview of all of the WB's lineup, before "The Musketeer" and "Rush Hour 2." Another fan has written in to say they saw a preview before "Hardball," which is the new Keanu Reeves film produced by Tollin-Robbins Productions, the production company that will also be bringing us Smallville.

But, if more of you see movie trailers for Smallville, can you send in an e-mail with where you found it, and what movie it was playing with? And also, how long the trailer is, and what's included in it?

Thanks in advance...

Also, fans in big cities are noticing big Smallville billboards on their way to work. If anyone sees these billboards, snap a photo and we'll post them here!

Many, Many Smallville Sightings!
(9/21) Super-fan Karen has been looking all over the place for Smallville news, and she's passed along several new sightings of Smallville material. Here's what she found:

The Vancouver Sun -- Had an article about Canadian talent on primetime TV, and a profile of Kristin Kreuk
The Vancouver Province --
Had a one-page article about an actor named Justin Chatwin who apparently will be in an upcoming episode of Smallville. (correction: for more information on Justin, read the above article!)
The Edmonton Journal -- Had a short item on Edmonton native and Smallville's own "Whitney Fordman," Eric Johnson.
More Reviews --
Harper's Bazaar, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Chicago Daily Herald, Christian Science Monitor, Buffalo News, Dertoit News, Newsday, Arizona Republic, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and the Gannett News Service all loved the show; the Dallas Morning News was disappointed.

Thanks again to Karen for the information!
