LANA
SIGHTINGS!
Kristin Kreuk (the actress soon to play Lana Lang in
"Smallville" this fall) can be found a few more places
if you're curious in knowing a bit more about her.
The Planet Krypton "Smallville" website has a
"high school yearbook"-style photo of her from the CBC
"Edgemont" website. You can see the photo at http://members.aol.com/planetkrypton/smallville.htm.
Secondly, if you'd like to see Kristin here on American TV, it
turns out that the Fox Family Channel is showing
"Edgemont" Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 p.m.
"Edgemont" takes place at a fictional school called
McKinley High... and trivia-savvy Fox Family viewers might also
note that "Freaks and Geeks" ALSO takes place at a
fictional McKinley High.
*Finally,* the "Your Guide to 2001" issue of
Entertainment Weekly has a short piece on Ms. Kreuk as well as a
picture, on page 34 of the magazine. It lists her as one of the
"new faces" of 2001, and it talks about her upcoming
role as Snow White for an ABC TV-movie. It also says she recently
did a pilot for the WB titled "Smalltown," but hey, no
one ever said EW was perfect.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE? RESULTS!
A recent Planet Krypton poll asked readers which
Superboy/Superman-related characters they would like to see show
up on "Smallville." Well, unfortunately the
all-powerful Tae has reminded us that just because the show is on
the WB, it doesn't make it any easier for super guest stars like
Batman or Green Lantern; but in the interest of fun, here's what
people wanted to see.
Special thanks to everyone who responded. While the total number
of respondees was probably around 30; that is still the best
participation for a Planet Krypton poll since 1999's
"Favorite Lois & Clark Episodes" poll. Here are the
results....
#1 BRUCE WAYNE (11 votes)
Perhaps because of the once-proposed "Bruce Wayne"
series that predated even the talk of "Smallville," it
seemed quite a number of the folks who responded wanted to see
the young millionaire before he was Batman. If
"Smallville" is a hit, and things don't seem to happen
with the proposed "Batman: Year One" movie, then
*perhaps* Bruce will indeed appear as sort of a
"Smallville" spinoff. That is pure speculation, and
considering that WB is gung-ho about a few Batman movie projects,
it may also be unlikely. TheSheri offers an alternative reason
for wanting to see Bruce: "I would love to see Bruce Wayne
in the new Smallville series. As a big fan of the whole Boy-Band
explosion here, I would love to see another young, cute boy to be
in the series."
#2 (tie) THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES (10 votes)
Tying for second place came the Legion of Super-Heroes, a group
of teen heroes from the 30th century that first appeared in a
Superboy comics story in the 1950's. "Pick 3 different
Legionnaires (Like Lightning Lad, Ultra-Boy and Brainiac
5.1)," reader Tae suggests.
#2 (tie) TEMPUS (10 votes)
Proving this started out and still continues to be primarily a
"Lois & Clark" newsletter, the time- and
dimension-travelling Tempus tied for second place. He once went
to an alternate universe where Clark had no Lois; how would that
keep him from going to a world where Clark is 15 years old? But
most of all, Tempus is good to throw in there and remind everyone
how galactically stupid they really are.
#4 LOIS LANE (9 votes)
It will be interesting to see if, when "Smallville"
kicks into gear, people will start rooting for "Lana and
Clark" rather than the previously-accepted-and-wished-for
"Lois and Clark." But apparently a lot of people wanted
to see Ms. Lane make an appearance. How old would she be? A
teenager, like Clark? Why would she go to a place like Smallville
-- she couldn't make that name up? Either way, people wanted to
see her.
#5 SUPERGIRL (6 votes)
Just so Clark wouldn't be completely alone in his Kryptonian
heritage, several people wrote in wanting to see Supergirl show
up in Smallville. Who knows -- perhaps that too would happen if
the show lasts long enough.
And the runners up...
Perry White (5 votes): Great Shades of Elvis! Would he have been
Editor of the Daily Planet yet at this time? Perhaps he will show
up in Metropolis if and when viewers get to meet Lionel Luthor.
Brainiac (4 votes): The green alien with the computer brain...
how would young Clark react?
And finally...
3 votes each: Pete Ross, Adult Superman
2 votes each: Mon-El, Bizarro, The Flash (Barry Allen), and
Mxyzptlk
1 vote each: Conduit, Krypto, Green Lantern, H.G. Wells, Jor-El,
Metallo, and Ambush Bug
Thanks to everyone who participated!
SUPERBOY TRIVIA!
Since the "Smallville" series has not premiered yet,
here's some trivia involving the Superboy character...
How many different actors played Superboy in the late 1980's TV
series of the same name?
(Send your answers to PlanetKrypton@aol.com! The answer to
#249's trivia: The real-life Whitney Ellsworth was the original
editor of DC Comics' "Superboy" series and then went on
to play a major part in the production of the original
"Adventures of Superman" TV series. There will
supposedly be a character named Whitney Ellsworth in
"Smallville," as the boyfriend of Lana.)

DEAN CAIN MENTIONED IN
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
There's an article in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly
(again, the one with "Your Guide to 2001" on the cover)
that talks about a Hollywood "NBA Entertainment League"
where several stars play against each other in basketball fun.
The article mentions that the league attracts such stars as Tobey
Maguire, Brian McKnight, and Survivors Dirk, Gervase, and Joel;
but also, of course, Dean Cain. League commissioner Zane Stoddard
jokes in the article that "Once a year, Superman [Cain]
plays Spider-Man [Maguire]." (Tobey Maguire is playing
Spider-Man in a movie due out in early 2002). You should be able
to find the latest EW on newsstands now.
TRIVIA!
What other "super hero" did Dean Cain play basketball
with on the WB lot back when "Lois & Clark" was
shooting?
