ISSUE
#204 "Concubine to slave.
Is that a step down?" |
HELLO!
Got some more news and stuff for you, so here we go!
Last issue we reported that Tim Daly of "Wings" fame
will be the star of the new "Fugitive" TV series to be
executive produced by former "L&C" executive
producer John McNamara. Super-fans (like Russ Dimino) might also
recognize Tim's name as the voice of Superman on the
"Superman" animated series. The Super-ness just flies
around and around!
And for the "Have We Heard This Song Before?"
Department: It seems that a lot of the former L&C writers and
producers are bringing along some of their good L&C ideas to
other shows. For example, "Charmed" (featuring the work
of Brad Kern) featured an episode recently where the three girls
had to live through the same day over and over (Great Shades of
"Mxymas!") The bug has struck again in the Tim
Minear-produced "Angel" on Tuesday, in an episode
titled "I've Got You Under My Skin." The title is the
only thing that's from L&C, as "Angel"'s plot seems
to deal with some kind of demon thing. (Can it eat Wesley...
please?) But hey, if you've got a good title, might as well use
it again. Both "Charmed" and "Angel" seem to
have great fan followings and intriguing characters so it IS
recommended that you check them both out (and pray they kill
Wesley).
Lane (Tempus) Davies was recently spotted on a repeat of the
sitcom "Ladies Man."
This newsletter is dedicated to the memory of Charles M.
"Sparky" Schulz (1922-2000). If you don't recognize the
name you surely know his characters: Charlie Brown, Lucy, Pigpen,
Linus, Peppermint Patty, Snoopy... the list goes on and on. His
death came one day before the final Peanuts Sunday comic strip,
which ran in newspapers today. The "Peanuts" gang is
right up there with Superman when it comes to icons created for
the world through comics, and Mr. Schulz will definitely be
missed.

P.S.: Here's a really lame plea, and I probably shouldn't even admit that I watch this with fear of humiliation, but hey, I admit to watching 4th season L&C so what do I have to lose? Anyway, I (CraigByrne@aol.com) am looking for the last three episodes aired of "Dawson's Creek." Our local WB station has decided to show basketball instead and/or I've just plain forgotten to tape them. If you can help, send me some mail? I'll pay for tapes and shipping, of course.
FROM
THE ARCHIVES....
Four years ago in Krypton Club Newsletter #92
(2/18/96), here were a few of the reviews of the
"almost-wedding" episode of L&C, "I Now
Pronounce You." The most interesting thing in here is seeing
that yep, Clark XX was right.....
FAN OPINIONS OF "I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU..."
FOLCs had a lot to say about "I Now Pronounce You...."
Some people thought
the clone storyline was interesting and can't wait to find out
what happens
next, others were not very happy with the results of the episode.
Here's what a few more of you had to say....
Vickme: "Just a couple more comments about INPY. I judge how
much I like a show by how long the feelings...as confused as they
are...linger. This show stayed with me for a long time. Then
there is the matter of how many times I watch the tape. In this
case, every day since it aired. And look at all the uproar,
positive and negative about this one! Like it or not, we are
hooked and enjoying every minute of it! Isn't that what has kept
us here all this time and keeps us coming back for more??
Overall, I trust the writers, cast and crew. I screamed louder
than anyone at the season finale, but after the season premiere I
was so pleased. It was worth the wait. Now I am just going to
trust the creators and do as many of you are suggesting: enjoy
the ride!"
Kevin Honikel: "I'm not surprised at the way INPY turned
out. The producers of Lois & Clark seem to like getting two
bites at the ratings apple. To wit: Remember we got a
'revelation/confrontation' scene in Tempus Fugitive, only to have
it yanked away at the end as an event which never really
occurred. The producers waited until the beginning of Season 3 to
give us the real revelation/confrontation scene. Now, lo and
behold, we get the wedding scene that we've all been dreaming of
(I think), and, again, at the end, they yank it away (I could
hear them going 'Nope -- not just yet!'). However, if they are
true to form, this means that we will get a Real wedding in the
future...and I, for one, can wait. Anticipation can be a good
thing too!"
LoCILaKe: "I'm not sure whether or not this is still
relevant in the least...but, oh well. I need to vent. I loved
INPY, but what gets me is the KNOWING that as Clark was
experiencing the best (or so he thought) day of his life, Lois
was experiencing her worst, knowing that the guy she loves is
getting married to somebody besides her without any objection,
the total opposite. Just think about it - on your wedding day,
knowing that your fiancee was getting married without you, and
you probably sitting pretty near to the actual event. Shudder.
Now that I've sufficiently depressed you........"
Ceowulf: "I had such high hopes for this show and was let
down completely by the way it turned out. To start out with, the
storyline was pretty dumb, clones and frogs do not belong in a
wedding episode. The scenes between Lois and Clark were good but
I expected so much more from this episode. As I think we have all
figured out by now, Clark did not marry his Lois. Wouldn't Clark
be able to tell his Lois from a frog-eating clone? And Lois was
kidnapped just a few feet from where Clark stood. A whispered
'Help me Clark!' Would have brought him running. Give the guy
some credit, he is not called Superman for nothing. He should
have known!! He should have known!! They also did not spend
enough time on the wedding. I expected a lot more than two
minutes. This was the wedding of the century, we deserved more.
The powers that be should not have advertised this episode and
promoted it as a wedding. The show was a farce and we deserve
better!! I will of course continue to watch the show because the
writer's have gotten us out of bad storylines before. I hope that
they can right this wrong."
ClarkXX: "I really did not like the episode. But for reasons
that are different from all the others I have seen. My favorite
part was the ending! I rejoiced when Lois was called away to sign
the guest book, cuz then I knew she would be switched! YEAH!
But what I didn't like was the immaturity of the rest of the ep.
The villains were so dumb and childish I could hardly watch, and
the whole "frog cloning" plot is so dumb, it makes the
ep that much harder to enjoy. Sure, it's L&C and they can
have plots that are "out there", but this was just to
dumb! And was that not that suckiest wedding you've ever seen?
All I can say is, REJOICE! He didn't marry the REAL Lois (which
would have been way to soon anyway), but it's that fake! And then
we get to see more eps, and then HOPEFULLY a SUPERB wedding
coming our way in the very near future! Oh, and that guy that had
her sign the guestbook, I think he's Lex! Let's see if I am
right. =)"
Jessica: "I have been watching Lois and Clark for over 2 1/2
years, ever since we first met Clark Kent and Lois Lane. I was so
excited that they were finally going to get married , I was
counting down the hours. Now I was one of the people who did not
read the spoilers. I thought that the frogs were really quite a
'stupid' plot, but as long as the worlds most perfect couple were
going to married I could stand it! I was very ANGRY when I saw
Lois get taken off "to sign the papers". I knew right
then that she would be cloned. I was very cross with that episode
and I even contemplated to stop watching my favorite show! But
since I love this show so much I decide to give it another
chance, so please don't let it let me down. I really don't want
to start a fight that is just my personal review. I was pleased
that Lex escaped. At the closing I would like to add that lots of
Ex-Lois and Clark fans tuned in to watch one of them being my
ex-boyfriend; he stopped watching because there were not enough
fight scenes, he now says he is glad that he stopped watching
because that episode stunk. I am sorry if this offends anyone but
I grade this episode a F."
Kunkles: "I just wanted to say that even though I was really
hoping Lois and Clark would finally tie the knot, I am not at all
disappointed with the episode. Did you actually think that they
would let the marriage go on perfectly without any mistakes? Sure
that would have been great, but what happens next? Do L&C
have super kids? The show could get way out of hand and get
cancled. I want the L&C to be on for many more seasons and I
would hate to see it get cancled, so I am happy with the decision
the writers made. Although I do hope one day, maybe even soon,
they will get married!"
WakeWord: "Well, after reading all of the reviews, I still
am not sure exactly how I feel about the episode. When it was
first over, I absolutely thought that I hated it. I couldn't
believe that they would have Clark marry a clone. What were they
thinking? The more I think about it though, and the more opinions
that I read, the more I think I like the episode. I am upset
about how short the wedding was, but I think that the plot was
just not good at all. I don't know what is was about the plot,
but it just didn't work for me. I loved the toast scene. It was
great. The whole clone thing though. It was too weird. I mean it
seemed a very unlikely thing to happen, even for Metropolis. I am
looking forward to seeing everything turn out okay, but I hope
that it happens soon. I don't know how much more of the clone
thing I can take."
TRIVIA!
What is the password on Lois's computer?
Look for the answer in the next newsletter. The answer to last issue's trivia: What color was the Kryptonian battle-suit that Clark wore when he was summoned to New Krypton? Well, Taryn gave us the funniest answer: "The suit was...god I don't know! It was Dean Cain in spandex and he was HOT! YOU WANT TO KNOW A SPECIFIC COLOR? All I could think about was me in it WITH HIM! Hot, tight, suit...oh yes....YES YES YES TAKE ME TO A SPA!" [Okay, if you really do care, it was black and blue]
