Old Headlines - February 15-28, 2002

Obviously an undertaking such as KryptonSite takes up a lot of bandwidth, and that costs money. Beyond that, though, your webmaster Craig is still barely employed. How can you help? Ordering through any of the Amazon.com links always helps, but you can also donate to the site via PayPal! The links to do so are just below. Thanks!! Any help is appreciated. Smallville DVD

You won't see this in stores in the United States but you CAN order it through Videoflicks.com. The DVD includes deleted scenes, a map of Smallville, and, oh yeah, what sounds like the Smallville pilot and "Metamorphosis." The DVD also includes commentary from executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and pilot director David Nutter. What are you waiting for? Order a copy!

Superman For All Seasons
Smallville explores the story of a young Clark Kent and his place in the world on television. In the comics, this was very well illustrated in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Superman For All Seasons." This has been labeled a "must read" by many fans and also listed as the favorite Superman story of recent years by many. Check it out!

Superman Transformed!
In 1997 the creators of the Superman comics altered Clark's powers. Since it's a given that Smallville's Clark may be dealing with at least one electrical wraith, here's where you can find out what happened when things turned shocking for Superman. It's also good if you were away from the comics for a while and were wondering what that blue Superman thing was all about.

"Smallville" and its characters are copyright ©2002 Warner Bros. & DC Comics. This is a fan site and not authorized by the WB or DC. Page copyright ©2002 Planet Krypton Productions, unless the material is noted as coming from someplace else. Smallville stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, John Schneider, Annette O'Toole, Sam Jones III, and Allison Mack.

Kristin Kreuk's Neutrogena Commercials Now Airing
(2/25) Several fans have written in to tell us that Kristin Kreuk's commercials for Neutrogena are now hitting the airwaves, so keep an eye out! You might have noticed that one aired during "Kinetic."

Smallville Reference In Final Roswell?
(2/24) Ain't It Cool News featured some information about the final episodes of UPN's Roswell, which is ending in May after two seasons on the WB and 18 episodes on UPN. They also mentionwed that there is some dialogue that may be in the final episode (unless the dialogue is cut) that takes place in the Crashdown Cafe that makes reference to Smallville. We did a little more digging and came to the complete background of the scene.

Here's the setup... a couple named Bill and Lydia enter the Crashdown Cafe while something bad is going on back at their house. Their visit to the Crashdown prompts this conversation:

BILL: "I'll have the Shatner Burger, hold the cheese."
LYDIA: "Do you recommend the Smallville salad?"
LIZ: "It would be hard for me to do that actually."
LYDIA: "Hm. Alright, I guess I’ll just stay with the Roswell burrito."
LIZ: "Smart move. This is actually the last night for the Roswell. New menus tomorrow and it didn’t make the cut."
CUSTOMER: "What?! I’ve been eating the Roswell burrito for the past three years. It’s a classic."
LIZ: "Hey, I just work here. I don’t decide what’s on the menu."

It's good to see the Roswell folks seem to have a little bit of a sense of humor about the situation, and it is unfortunate that UPN did not give the show a chance by giving it a try in another timeslot. While of course we here at KryptonSite wished victory for Smallville, it should not have meant an early death and network neglect for Roswell.

DC Comics President Reveals Smallville Comic Book Plans
(2/22) The Newsarama website recently interviewed new DC Comics President Paul Levitz where he revealed the company's plans for a Smallville comic book, and he reveled why there hadn't been one before. Here's some of what he had to say:

"We have a special coming first, which is a combination of a comic-format story, and some behind the scenes stuff – a 64-pager. Mark Verheiden, who is working on the show, and has been a wonderful comic book writer will do a 22-page lead story, and then there will be a couple of other stories written by some of the other writers from the television show, plus a bunch of strange back up stuff."

To read the rest of the article, including the explanation of why there was no comic before now, visit Comicon.com's Newsarama.

"Principal Kwan" Online!
(2/20) Many actors have websites spotlighting their resumes and news of their careers, MichaelRosenbaum.com being a popular example.

Today KryptonSite came across the website of Smallville High's own Principal Kwan, Hiro Kanagawa. Kanagawa of course appeared in the episodes "Hothead" and "Rogue" and we hear that he has at least one more episode coming in the future.

You can visit his site yourself by clicking here. Enjoy!

Director Picked For New Superman Movie
(2/20) It has been announced that McG (director of the "Charlie's Angels" movie) is signed to be next in line to direct a big-screen Superman movie, with J.J. Abrams (Alias) writing. While this news might sound a bit better than Nicolas Cage and Tim Burton, fans are wondering what -- if anything -- this could mean for Smallville.

Our advice? Don't worry just yet. Movies take several years to go through development, and beyond that, Warner Bros. has a hit on their hands with Smallville and they might not want to jeopardize the franchise by releasing a new Superman movie until after the series is through. McG himself has a "Charlie's Angels" sequel and other projects that will be coming first. For now, enjoy weekly Superman goodness every Tuesday night at 9 on the WB!

And what do you think -- could both go on at the same time? What would you rather see? Talk about it on the message board!

Turn "Lex Luthor" Into A Girl!
(2/16) The website for the upcoming movie "Sorority Boys" has some new features that could give Lionel Luthor a heart attack.

The movie stars Michael Rosenbaum (Lex), and the movie's website has added all kinds of new material, including the option to send e-greetings where you can morph Michael's character (Adam) from fraternity boy to sorority girl in seconds.

You can also find Cast & Crew lists, the movie's trailer, and more! Not only will you see more of "Lex Luthor in a dress," but you can also see Michael Rosenbaum with hair!

"Sorority Boys" hits theaters in the United States on March 22, 2002.

Lex Luthor Named One Of Top 20 Villains
(2/18) TV Zone magazine recently did a feature on the Top 20 villains of sci-fi television. Coming somewhere around #18 was Lex Luthor, as portrayed in Smallville by Michael Rosenbaum and in Lois & Clark by John Shea. (Mentions were even made by Superboy's Lex Luthors Scott Wells and Sherman Howard!)

The article also reprinted a 1994 interview with John Shea (now of Mutant X fame) where he talked about his approach to the role (and you can see how his approach is similar to or different from Michael Rosenbaum's!) TV Zone's Villains Special should be available at newsstands everywhere.

Thanks to EmotionalHermit for the lead.

One Million Hits!
(2/16) We are extremely happy to announce that KryptonSite has passed the mark of 1,000,000 hits. The site, which started off as a small part of a Lois & Clark site on AOL, has obviously considerably grown, but it couldn't have happened without the people who keep coming back.

Thanks to everyone who has helped make this site a success so far! If there's anything you'd ever like to see on the page, please send in some e-mail.
