Smallville DVD

You won't see this in stores in the United States but you CAN order it through Videoflicks.com. The DVD includes deleted scenes, a map of Smallville, and, oh yeah, what sounds like the Smallville pilot and "Metamorphosis." The DVD also includes commentary from executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and pilot director David Nutter. What are you waiting for? Order a copy!

Superman For All Seasons
Smallville explores the story of a young Clark Kent and his place in the world on television. In the comics, this was very well illustrated in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Superman For All Seasons." This has been labeled a "must read" by many fans and also listed as the favorite Superman story of recent years by many. Check it out!

Superman Transformed!
In 1997 the creators of the Superman comics altered Clark's powers. Since it's a given that Smallville's Clark may be dealing with at least one electrical wraith, here's where you can find out what happened when things turned shocking for Superman. It's also good if you were away from the comics for a while and were wondering what that blue Superman thing was all about.

Review of "Leech" Posted!
(2/14) Christopher Valin's review of the Smallville episode "Leech" has now been posted. Check it out!

"Leech" Music!
(2/13) Here's a list of the music heard in tonight's episode of Smallville. Feel free to order these through Amazon.com and help support KryptonSite!

"Fade" by Staind -- When Eric is on top of the dam for the first time, during the storm, this is the music that he is "listening to."
"Elevation" by U2 -- This is playing when the man tries to steal Chloe's purse and Eric stops the thief.
"Fat Lip" by Sum 41
-- The basketball scene features this in the background. If someone could tell us the difference between this song and Sum 41's "Motivation," go to the head of the class.
"Bonecracker" by Shocore
-- This is in the background when Eric goes on his rampage in the school parking lot.
"Inflatable" by Bush
-- This is played at the very end of the episode. Interesting to note: This album includes a song called "Superman."

Send A Smallville Valentine!
(2/14) At The WB's official website, fans can send e-valentines to their "super" someones.

So what are you waiting for? Send one to a friend! It might not be Clark and Chloe, but hopefully this will do!

Preview of the DC Direct Smallville Action Figures!
(2/12) AmericanDreamComics.com has posted images of the upcoming Smallville action figures, which were just previewed at the New York Toy Fair.

The three figures to be released are of Clark Kent, Lana Lang, and Lex Luthor, made to look very much like their television counterparts. Each figure also comes with an accessory -- Lana with a bag and a Kryptonite necklace that you too can wear, Clark with kryptonite -- err, meteor rocks, and Lex with a computer so he can call up LuthorCorp and KryptonSite whenever he pleases.

To your left you can find an image of the Lex figure. At the top left side of this article you can see the shot of all three.

No formal release date has been revealed for the figures.

You can see a few more images by clicking here. Thanks to EVERYONE who wrote in to share this news! (There were a dozen of you!)

Cracking Lex Luthor's Intranet Password...
(2/10) Ever since Victoria broke into Lex Luthor's intranet in "Shimmer," fans have wondered if they could get in just like she did.

We here at KryptonSite have been trying to find out the password, too, with no luck. However, there IS a way to get around the password function -- if only for a brief second. Could it be that the real version of the site is a work in progress? See for yourself by following these steps:

#1. Go to http://www.luthorcorp.net.
#2. Click the "Login" button.
#3. (PC users) Right click anywhere on the browser window and select "Play."
(Mac users) Press "control" and click and do the same thing. (Thanks Lindsay!)
#4. If it doesn't let you do that immediately, keep trying until it accepts you.
#5. You'll see a blue button. Click on it, and then right click and press "Play" again.
#6. You're in! Briefly. But then this only works for a second before Lex leaves a surprise for you!

Still, this may be the key to getting in to Lex's intranet. If anyone finds any more tips, please write in! We are not posting the contents of what people might find by following these instructions because you should just go and see for yourself what happens!

Another possible LuthorCorp tidbit can be found on the KryptonSite spoilers page. Just go to the very bottom of the page and look under "More Spoilers..." Thanks to "The Spike" for passing that along!

Smallville Featured In Dreamwatch Again!
(2/4) Tresca tells us that Smallville is featured in the March issue (#89) of Dreamwatch magazine. Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy fame is on the cover. The issue featured an interview with Smallville executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Here are some highlights:

Miles Millar talked about an advantage they had in casting. "We got the pilot commitment back in August, so we had almost five months to cast, which is a rarity in television. We had casting agents and directors in Florida, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Toronto, and Vancouver, all scouring and looking for a Clark, Lana, and Lex. Lana was the first person we cast; Kristin Kreuk, a young Canadian actress from Vancouver, who is extraordinary in terms of her natural beauty. For Clark, I’d say we saw 700 actors, and then Tom came in and he really had a presence and a strength and a vulnerability that we thought was really appropriate for young Clark.”

Al Gough talked about how the Superman legend spans generations. “Whenever Clark gets around Lana,” he said, “he gets weak in the knees, and doesn’t know why, but the audience gets it immediately. When I showed my mom the pilot, she immediately knew it was Kryptonite, so it’s obviously something that translates through generations.”

Gough also offered some interesting details about the background of Pete Ross that hasn't been explored much in the series yet. “Pete is the youngest member of a family that’s been in Smallville for several generations,” he explained. “In the series, Pete is African-American, and Lionel Luthor bought the Ross’s creamed corn factory and then screwed them on the deal, turning it into a fertilizer plant, so the Rosses don’t like the Luthors. When Clark starts befriending Lex, that comes between him and Pete as well.”

And about Smallville's answer to Lois Lane, Chloe Sullivan, Miles Millar offered this: “Chloe originally comes from Metropolis. She’s the outsider who seems Smallville for what it is, which is a weird place."

Regarding the recasting of Martha Kent, originally played by Cynthia Ettinger, Millar said “I think we just really wanted it to feel comfortable. Cynthia Ettinger is a wonderful actress, but everyone else felt so natural that if we got someone of the caliber of Annette O’Toole, I think it was going to be really helpful. For us, the parents are so pivotal that we really needed the strongest people in those roles. It was something that we all felt; it wasn’t about the actors, it was about the role.”

Millar and Gough talked about different challenges Clark may face in the future of the show, and Millar hinted that "natural disaster stories" may be on the way.

There is much more featured in the article that you can read all about by picking up the latest Dreamwatch. This issue has just recently hit American newsstands, so check it out! You also should be able to order a copy by e-mailing dreamwatch@titanemail.com or by phoning the UK number 01536 764646. Special thanks to SmallvilleFanUK for the ordering update, and again to Tresca for the details on the article.

Tom Welling on "Sizzlin' 16" Special!
(2/2) Tom Welling (Clark) was named one of the "Sizzlin' 16" up-and-coming stars by E! Entertainment Television, and is featured on their special Sizzlin' 16, which aired on Saturday, February 2nd.

Other stars on the list include Hayden Christensen (Star Wars' future Darth Vader), Jake Gyllenhaal (Bubble Boy), Jennifer Garner (Alias), and Gabrielle Union (Bring It On). Scifi and Wizard Cover Smallville; Will Bruce Wayne Appear?
(1/30) Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, and Michael Rosenbaum of Smallville are on the cover of the latest issue of Scifi magazine, and there is also a 6-page article inside.

The excellent article features quotes from many people involved with the show.

Here some highlights:

Michael Rosenbaum said about appearing on the cover of TV Guide "I was beside myself. It was really amazing. It put a smile on my face." He also talked about Lex Luthor's flawed relationship with his father and offers some very interesting insights. The article also features a quote from Joe Davola about Michael's first "transformation" into Lex. Davola also acknowledged some of the online fandom for the show. "They call him online, Sexy Lexy."

John Schneider had this to say about Jonathan: "The only thing I really know about Jonathan [prior to Smallville] is that he died early in the movie. So if that were what I got to do, I'd say, well, it feels kind of crummy. [However,] if the show runs 20 years, we will not get to that point. Emphysema will not appear [laughs]. It's in the contract, no emphysema will be mentioned in any way, shape or form. That's not quite true..."

Finally, the article featured what may be John Glover's first public comments about Smallville and his role as Lionel Luthor. "I had the good fortune to work with Fred Zinnemann in this movie Julia with Jane Fonda," Glover said. "I had one scene with her. And he said, 'This man thinks of himself as being quite noble and quite right.' So ever since it's kind of been a clue into how to play a good villain. You really have to believe in them. So with Lionel, I see him as really having to teach Lex life lessons. I'm sometimes surprised when people have seen the show and talk about how evil and bad I am [laughs]. They don't understand I'm just trying to teach my son a lesson about life. It's just the lessons are very difficult and complicated, and he can't always firgure them out."

Keep reading the site to see if and when this is confirmed! We're working on a cover scan too, if the email gods will allow it! Scifi Magazine is available at bookstores everywhere, so be sure to get a copy!

Elsewhere in magazine-land, Wizard magazine also did a feature on Smallville in its latest issue, which also featured a photo of Tom and Kristin on the corner of the cover! The most interesting part of the article was Wizard's posing of the frequently asked question "Will Batman guest star?" Well, will he?

The article revealed that an appearance won't be possible this season, but there are moves being made to work out an agreement with DC Comics to use a young Bruce Wayne in a 2-to-3-episode story arc, maybe even as soon as next season.

"Within the Superman universe, we're clear to use those characters, and DC's been very supportive but with other characters it's a creative and business decision... Batman has a whole 'nother licensing thing and ownership even though it's in the DC world," Smallville executive producer Alfred Gough revealed. Gough also speculated on how Bruce would interact with some of Smallville's folks.

"I don't think he and Clark would really get along," Gough said. "I think maybe the last line of the meeting would be Clark turning to Bruce and saying, 'You should really seek some professional help'."

Jeph Loeb Mentions Smallville In Newsarama Article
(2/4) The Comics Newsarama website recently featured an interview with Superman comics writer Jeph Loeb about recent events involving Lex Luthor in the comics. They inquired about the timing of the comic revelations as compared to what's currently going on in Smallville. Here's what Loeb had to say:

Be warned, comic book spoilers follow:

NEWSARAMA: The comic aside for a second, is there any connection between Luthor finding out Clark’s secret in your book, and it looking like the Luthor character on Smallville is very close to learning Clark's secret as well, or was this completely independent?

JEPH LOEB: No, this is a classic life imitating art imitating life – well, not really, but I like saying that. This story was approved a year before Smallville - which I love -- how can you not love a show that has a shot in the opening credits of The Loeb Bridge - thanks, Miles and Al! - went on the air and the story was written before I'd seen the pilot. Also, I'm not so sure that where the Luthor story in Smallville is headed where folks think it is headed - since they have a five year plan and in television especially, you take those steps very carefully.

Have we benefited from Luthor and his portrayal on the show being great? Sure. Just having the show benefits us if one more reader comes to the comic book from the show. But, when Luthor on Smallville is shown as The President of United States in "Prophecy" [note: Loeb apparently meant "Hourglass" -- Craig @ KryptonSite] and that's something that hadn't been part of the Superman story until, well, I thought of it and Eddie dunked into the net - that is very, very cool.

Folks often accuse DC of being the dog wagged by the WB tail. That hasn't been my experience. I can't say it doesn't happen, I just can say it hasn't been my experience.

Bottom line - Smallville is very good for us and hopefully, and apparently, thankfully, we're good for Smallville.

To read the complete interview with Jeph Loeb (but be warned, there may be spoilers from the comic book), visit the Comics Newsarama website.
